What time do they shut the strip down to cars? I'd be staying about 5 miles out of town and would be parking at one of the casinos.

Do they charge for Freemont St? I thought it was free? Or was just for New Years?
the strip gets shut down around 7 or 8pm for cars.. don't know about parking at the casinos, you would have to show the room key or be really really early.

Fremont Street is free except for New Years Eve. Advance tickets are usually 25-30… day of costs more

Parking is extremely difficult if you aren't in place before it gets dark. One year got lucky and found a spot at Gold Coast, there was nothing else available at 10pm when our visitors wanted to go out there. Another year when visitors came they wanted to go to Hard Rock first and the parking lot was almost full at 4pm and the guards were asking if we were guests. We told them we would eat at Pink Taco and they let us in, but then by 6pm there was such a traffic jam around the Strip and told of such bad parking problems we ended up walking both ways.

If one is even the slightest bit claustrophobic, don't go. Its not just packed, its can't move an inch packed between Trop and the Wynn. I'm really surprised there haven't been tragedies from people being crushed or trampled. I remember the one time the guy in the tree was electrocuted, he was maybe 30 feet from where I was and I had no idea what had happened to him but saw medics trying to push their way through the crowd. It was after that they fenced off the middle for police and emergency people.

It's crazy packed man, I wouldn't go unless you're prepared to be shoulder to shoulder with people. I think last years count was 350k. And we're talking in a 4 or 5 square mile area. Don't do it man... it's not worth your life

I cant imagine if there is some sort of incident and drunk people in a panic try to get out of there. It would not be pretty.

Definitely something I would never do. If I lived in Vegas I would probably leave town during that time!

That's our plan. Flagstaff. You couldn't pay me enough to go to the Strip on NYE. We have a friend coming from the East Coast and he wants to do it, so we're just giving him the keys to our house and taking off.

I was thinking going near NY-NY or the Luxor. Is it bad there?

Were in our 60's...not looking for a rough time though. Sounds nasty if your in the wrong place.

Why do people bother posting things like this? It doesn't add any value to the thread

Everything else is super expensive and is designed to depart you from your hard earned money.

No reason to visit Las Vegas at all anymore unless you are required to attend some convention.
Las Vegas is a tourist trap, expensive tourist trap.

Maybe around the Luxor it might be a little better. I'd guess north of Trop it starts getting worse with casinos on both sides. Its only bad for about 20 minutes before and after. At least its nothing like NYC where you have to stand for half a day and can't move the entire time. Do it once for the experience, then you will never want to do it again.
