During the boom years, those threads usually had positive endings.

Not so much anymore.

(Just for the hell of it, go check out the North Dakota section of the forum. About 99% of the "moving to ND for work" threads have happy endings. Even the people fresh out of prison have turned their life around.)

Someone who us thoughtful enough to post in a place like this and ask relevant questions is many times more likely to have a good ending. Many who move to the perceived boomtown like Vegas was until 2008 just get it in their mind to go and do very little planning and take minimal money. We don't hear their stories, which I am sure have many more not so great endings.

So you would rather have a nice plume of smoke blown up your backside than the truth?

Doing it on your own works too. That's what everyone had to do before forums anyway.

As far as this forum goes...you get a dose of the good, the bad and the ugly. I think this helps with making an informed decision. I always research the pros and cons of any major purchase or decision. I have saved so much money and emotional pain by doing this.

Good luck.

1. This is not a rant thread, it is the 2015 Relocating to Las Vegas without a job lined up thread.

2. Because the "regulars" are here to help new users rather than trying to scare them away.

I won't speak for the other regulars. But this regular is sick to death of the same question being asked over and over. There is no point answering. Because newbies don't want information. What they want is to have random strangers validate their hairbrained scheme.

Nobody wants to hear:

1) Newcomers usually need to "put their time in" before landing even half-way decent jobs.
2) The high-paying casino jobs go to the people who have already put their time in at the casino.
3) Poor credit score, a criminal record or spotty employment history are usually dealbreakers.
4) Experience in East Cupcake, NJ is not the same as experience in Las Vegas.
5) Many careers simply do not pay here what they pay elsewhere. (Ask anyone in IT.)

And, again, how is this different than anywhere else? You think you can drop your a$$ into any random town anywhere nowadays and get big money? Williston, ND and other oil patch towns used to work, but that gravy train seems to be stopping.

Do you think marginal people with bad backgrounds do well anywhere?

What's even more interesting is if you Google "finding a job in Las Vegas", several City-Data threads pop up in the search results. Depending on what key words are used, you can get several searches of employment related threads.
