Hello all,

I have made a decision to relocate to Las Vegas from Louisville, KY in 2015. I have been applying for jobs online but I haven't received any call backs as of late. I am using a family members address on my resume as well. I'm thinking that if I'm actually in the city I will be able to look for work easier versus just applying online. I currently hold an associate degree in Healthcare Administration and a Bachelors in Healthcare Management. I have a place to stay while I look for work so I'm thinking of just packing up and hitting the road and hit the ground running to apply for jobs? I'm looking for a salary range of 40-45k. How's the healthcare field in Vegas as far as job opportunities? Any suggestions? Should I land a job first? Or take a leap of faith? By the way I'm single female with no children.

Thanks for the feedback!

If you would do a modicum of reading on this very subject I feel you would conclude that it is a horrible idea to move here without a job lined up.

It's risky to move without a job. How much of a financial cushion do you/will you have saved up by the time you would make this move?

Since you have a place to stay in Las Vegas that's an advantage as opposed to someone that rolls into town without having a place to stay other than a hotel (or car) and no job lined up. Money goes FAST. It can take months to find employment in Las Vegas and many people have failed miserably by not finding work and running out of money. You're going to need a nice bank roll to keep you going while you pursue employment. Healthcare is expanding in the U.S. so it's a good field. Before leaving for Las Vegas you should check the employment listings in Las Vegas inr your field. Since you have a Las Vegas address that you can use on your resume you should apply first to get a feeling of the market. A local phone number would be very wise, too.

Cheers.

You didn't mention a job title ...is your work experience also in health care admin ? or just the degree?

Since you have a very specific field, call several hospitals, medical centers to see if you can line up an 'informational interview' in order to discuss your job prospects. Set up a couple of interviews for the same date and fly out here for a few days.

I work in the Health Care admin field and noticed that most aren't hired due to not having actual work experience vs just having a degree in the field. Do you have a least a couple of years experience? This might be the reason you haven't been hearing back from potential employers. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm told cardiothoracic surgeons are in high demand.

Same thing for tax attorneys.

I've been working in the healthcare field for 3 years now with a background in A/R, A/P, Credentialing and Medicaid.

You should visit first and attend an HFMA (Healthcare Financial Management Association) meeting. They have a very active local chapter. You can also contact members of their local board to feel out the availability of jobs.
