Just returned from a week long search of the Las Vegas area for a potential landing spot. The number one thing I learned is that you MUST come out and take the time and LOOK for yourself! What I thought I wanted I learned I didn't. Where I wanted to live I learned I didn't. This was only accomplished by taking the time and driving through areas, visiting apt locations and talking a lot with locals.

Coming from the Detroit area a couple things stood out to me. First everything is tightly compacted such as stores, houses, condos, apts, businesses. Just doesn't seem to be a lot of breathing room. Secondly, as much as I have read on here about terrible drivers I didn't notice any difference than what I drive in daily in a metro Detroit.

Now that I have spent some time looking I will adjust my criteria and make another trip in March to look in my desired area. So for anyone thinking or planning on relocating to Vegas take the time to go out and look for yourself, you be surprised in one way or another. Good Luck!

So where are you looking next time?

And you are right about the tightly compacted thing. Seems odd because we are surrounded by so much undeveloped land but the Feds actually own most of Nevada.

Did you like the weather? Good time to be here instead of Detroit.

Good Morning YS.....weather was great, really had no complaints at all about my trip. Everybody I talked to was cordial and most helpful.

I really liked south of the airport down by St. Rose and Seven Hills roads. Still not familiar with all the names of the the areas but loved the mountains, desert and open space. Seemed a little more pricey than areas in the middle. Traffic in Green Valley was pretty bad and some told me its that way most of the time.

Summerlin area was very nice, just not for me. Will keep an open mind for next trip but think I will concentrate in the southern areas.

That's what I did. Contacted my Realtor and she had a list and drove me around. I narrowed it down and visited the subdivision (sd) and made ever increasing circles outward on different days, weekdays and weekends, with the window down so I could also listen while looking. Visited local establishments and struck up conversations on the neighborhood - and even walked in to Henderson PD and the officer on duty there that Saturday actually knew of the sd and told me about the area; crime, schools, etc.
