I know its a long shot and the odds are against my favor here but I received an email this morning that says I've been invited to a "Food and Beverage Meet and Greet" for a position I applied for at Wynn/Encore

The problem is the meet and greet is February 4, and as if having to work that day here in Florida wasn't bad enough...I cant even make the flight out to Vegas for the interview

Has anybody ever pulled off getting a job on the strip before moving there. As I said before the odds are against me but I'm damn sure gonna try

Unless you are applying for a upper management position, the chances of getting hired for a hourly or tipped position are slim to none.

"Meet and greet"?

This sounds like something to weed out the non locals.

It seems all of the traditional interview skills I read up on would be useless if I ever applied on the strip. I probably would need a trendy outfit, skinny jeans, Mohawk and square toe shoes to stand out.

I would like to see a hidden camera at one of these auditions.

If you can't make the meet and greet, forget it. Service workers are a dime a dozen out here. They're not going to hold a position for someone who hasn't relocated yet.

Manager level and above it can happen, so probably not for you.

Just call the HR recruiter and see if its possible to do a Skype interview to keep you in the mix.

Call the HR recruiter?

Seriously, when was the last time you looked for a job? The "HR Recruiters" keep a ring of barriers, minefields, and a moat full of crocodiles between them and the applicants. You don't call them. They call you. You wait by the phone and hope it will ring, like a homely person just before prom night.
