Anyone read Howard Stutz's article in the paper this morning: No ashes mean less cash in Macau?

Quote: Most agree the move last year to outlaw smoking on Macau's casino floors contributed to the gaming revenue declines, in addition to the crackdown on corruption in China. The smoking restrictions only added to the misery!

The smoking ban's effect in the declines varies depending on which analyst you speak with.

And, now to add to the misery, there's a proposal to ban A-L-L smoking in casinos, including the high-end gambling rooms. Prior to, you had to smoke in private, VIP rooms and airport-style smoking rooms.

Oh the irony of it all! When you have to wear a face mask to walk around China!!!!

So! To those wishing to ban smoking in the casino's in Las Vegas............................................. .

I know the non-smokers would never believe it, the pleasure/importance is to smokers, nor would they believe it that some of these Chinese smoker might even forsake Macau to come here, so they can smoke and gamble! And? Increase our tourism, stimulate our economy!

So, ban smoking in Las Vegas casino's, and? Anyone's guess?

I don't work in the tourism industry so I would love to see smoking banned here in all public places. Las Vegas would still survive and be a much more enjoyable experience for us non-smokers. Personally, I hate smoking with a passion and it should only be legal in private.

I think casinos should be non smoking and have designated areas for smokers. I also think bar/restaurant combos example Shucks tavern should be non smoking

No way to stop it. The ban-hammer is falling on public smoking and there's not a thing anyone can do about it.

Extremely few Macau players will ever make it to Las Vegas because of a smoking ban. Time to forget you ever had that fantasy.

I think in a decade a full ban on indoor smoking will be in place. The arguments against it are getting more irrational each year.

I agree. And the reason that I agree is that in a decade there simply will not be enough smokers to complain about bans. They may as well throw wooden shoes at casinos for all the good it will do them.

Vegas, at least in the casinos, will be the last place this happens. The casinos have too much influence, and they believe that smokers have more predilection towards gambling that the general population.

One big positive, for banning smoking in the Las Vegas casino's, is that once banned, there'll be a flood of nonsmoking gamblers, who have been waiting for years, on the sidelines, to finally enter these places to squander their money, all the money they've saved from not smoking. Can't you see that happening? With such a horde of nonsmoking gamblers pouring into these casino's, it will result in a massive casino building spree, down LV Blvd right up to the property line of the M Resort! Resulting in 1000's of construction jobs, 1000's of new jobs in the casino's! It couldn't come soon enough!

The smoking Chinese gamblers will forsake Macau, and then head to the growing casino resorts in Vietnam and the Philippines, more desperate for their money!

Now! Big question!!! How do we stop the 2nd hand smoke coming from China, across the Pacific, from all those polluting industries and cars? How about some gigantic fans atop the Spring Mountains? Would that work, blow all that 2nd hand smoke back to China?

Do non-smokers enjoy gambling/drinking? LOL. My guess is the casinos will ultimately cave in and most likely are already trying to plan outdoor casinos! At any rate, this conversation has been played like a stuck record for years.

Any other good NEW debates?

Too start with Macau limits middle class players smoking or not they have to pay a hefty fee to get into the casino and it has a time limit on it. Macau is not in business like the casinos here in LV they do not cater to the working class average JOE. Second to travel out of China such as to Vietnam and etc you just do not jump on a jet like here to fly to another country they are very strict about who leaves the country and Why!!! Third the recent crack down on the big whales gambling from China is pushing the numbers to where they are. China's economy survives where it is because 90% of the goods sold in China is made there and consumed so the Communist government will do anything to maintain that and not open up and allow the general population access to the open markets of the world. Many of the governments in the Far East are this way. So do not think Las Vegas will follow suit with a smoking ban because they do we are structured and govern much different and our culture the same. China has a much more bigger problem and that is their work force who wants a livable wage and that will make a much more impact than a smoking ban.
