One of our dogs has taken up whining to TRY to get what he wants. He'll dance around and act like we just have to take him to the park, then when we get there, if we sit down, he jumps in our laps. The other one does laps checking his p-mail, and sending messages. Neither cares anything about the other dogs, and mostly they ignore them.

My lab is very similar. He likes other dogs, and, if anything, just wants to give them a little sniff test, then he is on his way. He's really just happy to be outside.

What sized dog do you have?

I often feel the same way about this and other parks lot's of little snappy/mean dogs.... but when I take my 22lb dog to the "over 35lb dogs only" section, he has more fun and the dog's are more friendly

I have a 65 lb black lab. He is a bit on the small size for lab. He is very energetic, but gentle toward all animals... if they let him near them, and the ones that don't, really aren't social animals in general. He is an "only child" so he doesn't really know how to "Play" with other dogs, mostly he just wants to sniff them and be on his way. He has been at other dog park (none where they separate the dogs by size), where other dogs are playing, and he wants to join, but if you throw a ball for the other dogs, he will chase after it, but stop dead before he reaches the ball, and watches the other dogs get it. He never has been in anyway aggressive. Mostly, he is just happy doing his own thing, and enjoying the outdoors.

Mine is 39lbs. I went to Kellogg Zaher yesterday. Some couple brought in two boxers that they couldn't handle, one of which decided my dog was the one to chase, pin and bite. We left.

I would have too. My dog has been snapped at while trying to say hello to another dog, and he just backed away, and on his way, and we went to a different area of the park, which , thankfully was massive, and had plenty of places to get away from ill behaved dogs.

I guess we will just try a dog park, and if it isn't conducive, we will pick another.

You never know what you will get when you go to a dog park and it only takes one dog/owner to ruin it for everyone else. Most of the time everything goes great but since I only take my dog 2x a week that bad days stand out. I wanted to join the Hydrant Club but the prices are crazy.

What is the Hydrant Club? Is that like a gym for dogs?

It's a membership only off leash dog play space down town. You have to pay $150 just for your dog to be evaluated, they must be vaccinated.

Stick: $25/month – Five off leash day passes per month that can be used by appointment Monday through Saturday.
• Biscuit: $35/month –Saturday/Sunday only
• Bully Stick: $55/month –Monday through Friday only
• Hamburger: $75/month – Access to off leash space 7-days-a-week

I wish we had a large outdoor dog park with a membership fee with the same rules vaccinated, behaved someone there to monitor behavior, etc. then it would be worth it for me. My dog needs a lot of space to run.

So the other parks don't require the dogs to be vaccinated? Not even for Rabies? That seems crazy. To charge for a dog park seems even crazier.
