Just like "Jay Sarno's part."

Jay should have hired a copy editor.
Actually, no. You don't use an apostrophe when it is simply a plural. Jay was not denoting that each Caesar OWNED the palace. But it was a palace for their use. They don't possess anything. Every visitor is a Caesar. There are multiple visitors. Therefore Caesars Palace is correct.

Just as long as the kids in our troubled school system know the difference.

They don't need to own the palace. It just has to be a palace used by all these little Caesars. Then it's a Caesars' palace.

Just like a palace that belonged to all the original Roman emperors is a Caesars' palace. (No such place exists, naturally.)

Since gamblers are a superstitious lot, I suggest the reason Caesars Entertainment is bankrupt because of the "curse of the apostrophe." Maybe they'll correct it. They can hire Lynne Truss to correct their bad grammar mojo.

Scoop is grammatically correct. The justification Sarno gave to skip the apostrophe was likely a poorly formulated afterthought to cover his bad grammar. There is no proper way to interpret "Caesars Palace."

That said, there are a lot of businesses which purposely use incorrect grammar to set themselves apart and be a bit quirky. Sarno's explanation doesn't make sense because if it was honest, there would be an apostrophe at the end of Caesars.

Here's another example:

The people don't own the court, but they use it. It's judge Mulian's court and the people are visitors.

OK, I'll buy that. I'll just stick to my claim that the writer of the article (or his copy editor) used the incorrect name for the casino. At least that we can agree on.

Actually, we could interpret it as a palace dedicated to the memory of all Caesars past. Then "Caesars Palace" doesn't need an apostrophe. (Not the same as, say, Speakers' Corner.) But that's really, really grasping at straws.

Now if we could just get every supermarket in America to change their express lane signs to "10 items or fewer."

I struggle with Blondies too - until the server in a cheerleader outfit delivers my pitcher of beer.

What? And confuse 90% of the shoppers?
