As far as I'm concerned, the only acceptable attitude is, "Yay! New construction project!"

I hope they demolish Circus² next and build something new and shiny in its place.

Excalibur could be gutted and refurbished for even more construction project goodness. Best thing about these projects is that they aren't taxpayer funded -- unlike stadiums. Tourists keep coming here and throwing away money. May as well put as many people to work as possible while getting others to pay for it.

Nostalgia for the "Old Vegas" (which is dead and buried somewhere in the desert) doesn't pay the bills. It's not like the Rat Pack are coming back anytime soon. Knock the non-performing assets down and replace them with newer resorts. Then we can turn our eyes to the Tropicana, Westgate, Flamingo, Hooters, and some of the more dismal "locals" casinos -- like Longhorn.

The Tropicana had a face lift inside about 2 years ago they did a nice job. I just hope the property the Riviera is on is not turned into more shopping malls and etc it may be the trend for now but 5 years from now will they be the past thing and we have a bunch of empty properties on the strip??? Updates are necessary and welcomed and some properties old as they are still turn a profit. The longhorn should stay it keeps a certain element of our society there and not among the other nice places which we do not want them in. So keeping some old with the new makes LV a great place to visit. So I predict more places will up grade and not many new casinos and hotels will be erected for at least 10 years.

Well, we already know it's been bought by the convention center to be a convention center...

Great Post...Couldn't agree more. Adding space to the convention center will create more revenue for the city and county through larger and more conventions than any 60 year old casino that has gone through bankruptcy. People who long for the old Vegas are they same ones who haven't stepped in a casino on the strip in years. We will be adding more jobs too! Let's celebrate the good news and hope Circus Circus is next.

It just hit me, I don't think I have ever been in the Flamingo. Am I missing anything?

If you go out back by the pool, there's a nice area with large palm trees, small waterfall/river, and some live birds--not a bad spot to check out

Yes. Go to the buffet at some non-busy time and ask for a table by the window. You can have a good meal and watch the birds and fish just outside. After you eat, go out for a walk.

I'll never forget, they used to have penguins even!
