Failing best, cheapest/most reasonable? Is this stuff expensive? I believe it is a mild flavored radish that looks like a white carrot. Native to Japan I think.

I have failed to find this in the regular stores in my area. A bunch of my low carb friends are raving about this stuff as a substitute for potatoes. According to them you can thin slice or dice, then microwave till translucent, squeeze out the excess moisture, and do almost anything you would with a potato. Like potato salad, hash browns, or au gratin.

And it has almost zero carbs so I want to give it a try.

Green land,99 Ranch, Seafood City. Whole Foods, Sprouts. I not sure if your going to like it as a substitute for potatoes but what do you have to loose. I use it a few times a week chopped up fine mixed with shredded cabbage dressed in olive oil and lemon juice as a side dish instead of potatoes or rice.
