I should be able to get some good shots of this one. It's supposed to happen around 7pm, and I'll still be awake at that time.

Here's what I got a couple weeks ago.

The altostratos clouds above my house tell me that this eclipse may not be visible. Visibility will be spotty at best. Look toward Frenchman's Mountain, near the Doppler radar station as soon as it gets dark. The moon will rise while it is reaching its umbra. It will reach totality at 7:11pm.

That is, if we can see it through the clouds.

Not complaining though, the transit of Venus and the last three solar eclipses have happened on totally cloudless days. (Our bland, boring weather patterns have their advantages. Particularly for star gazers who can deal with the light pollution.)

Someone please blow the clouds away so we can see this tonight. With all this talk of the end of the world tomorrow, if I wake up and see zombies running amok, I am going back to sleep.

It's amazing how people will lose their minds over a common occurrence. There isn't even a comet visible right now. Usually that's when "the faithful" totally lose it.

Oh, don't worry, the end isn't until Oct. 7.

At 11,000', that would be altocumulus, and 25,000', cirrus and cirrostratus (high clouds). Few at 110, so there is less than 5/8 of altocu at 11,000. Broken, so more than 5/8 of the sky is covered with high clouds at 2356 GMT aka Zulu aka 4:56 pm Pacific 9/27.
