I don't even budget for food anymore because it's one of our lowest annual expenses. This is how my wife and I keep our annual spending in the high four-figure, low five-figure range.

But Albertson's gives away Monopoly game pieces and only charges ten times as much!
When I went back to that thread and checked the post you linked I didn't see El Super in it and I was questioning myself that maybe it went by another name because I've never seen the ad before or been to it, but I thought surely this must be the Spanish market place you've been mentioning with the super low prices.

I noticed also that Von's has majorly dropped their prices on produce in their ads. Walmart has checkers mentioning to people in their check out lines about price matching. I had a lengthy conversation with one about if it applies to produce and could I take cell phone pictures. And last week Cardenas produce was not as fresh as usual and I had to pick through product to get decent stuff. I was wondering what's going on. Smith's, Albertsons and Sprouts didn't seem to change anything this week.

Oh, and this is definitely the time to buy patio furniture everybody. Sales going on everywhere for that.

I just searched and I've written close to 200 posts that mention El Super.

Here's an example:

Apparently I require a cordial invitation from El Super in my mail. Some people are visual learners.

I don't know how Albertson's does it but there must be a market for it or other more popular Albertson's are covering the cost of the lower performing ones. Monopoly can't be the only thing because it's a blatant slap in the face. That or people don't care and everyone is living with debt, or they make considerably more and don't think about it because it's convenient.

It IS a blatant slap in the face. And I took a bunch of crap about that when I brought it up in the Monopoly Game thread.

El Super is where it's at for produce and chickens. (As long as they're Mexican chickens. Sometimes they sell Purdue. Purdue sucks. Go to Market 168 if El Super is selling crap chickens that week.)

Some places keep customers by getting a reputation for having good prices so they jack up the price in other areas because people believe it's a good place to shop once they've shopped there awhile.

I wasn't fair to Sprouts. I just looked at this weeks ads again and their produce is considerably lower like Von's too.

I think it must be getting into peak produce season. I'm seeing corn, squash, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries, apples, oranges and watermelon deals. None of the leafy greens yet really besides herbs though.

And Smith's is having a deal on regular and diet dr. pepper non-generic with card for 88 cents, but every place has their weekly deals on some items. Albertson's has their coupons you can clip from their ads.

I go there every year for a week (going week after next) but on business, so my employer pays for the trip and the event I attend has free food. Usually I just spend about $20 on dinner at Bobby's Burger Palace Sunday when I arrive, and maybe another $20 gambling during some own time, that's about it.
