The Gallup Well Being Index was released today. And the results aren't particularly surprising:

#78 out of 100. Below average at everything except health, where we're one point above average.

I agree. Look at El Paso at #5 while Salt Lake City comes in at #59. Something's messed up with the rankings.

But these were for more touchy-feely criteria like "sense of purpose" and similar. Why else would Alaska score so highly on a well-being study? You would think seasonal depressive disorder would skew those numbers, big time.

I figure it's only a matter of time before someone drops in and demands that Gallup doesn't know anything about how to conduct a poll. It's inevitable.

They probably did some, well... "unique" weighting (and definitions) of the factors and categories.
