Hello there. I have just moved to Las Vegas from San Francisco over the weekend, and am looking to get involved in the Jewish Community out here. I have researched JewishVegas.com and came across a page of Synagogues, but I am looking to find where the "Young Crowd" attends. I am 25, and my cousin, who also lives here, is 20. I'm really interested in a more Conservative or maybe even Orthodox Synagogue. I definitely want to get into Torah study, or some form of Jewish Study Group, as I'm always looking to learn more. I also would love to take Conversational Hebrew in order to step up my Hebrew speaking skills. If anyone has any information or leads to any of the aforementioned topics I would really appreciate it. BTW, I'm closest to the Charleston/Fort Apache area, although I would not be opposed to driving a little further to mingle with those my age. Thanks in advance.

Hi There (Shalom!) -

I would check out the JCC of Southern Nevada: JCC Association

Also, the United Jewish Community/Jewish Federation of Las Vegas: Moving to las Vegas

(The above article is great for starters, and has links to other resources as well.)

There is a Jewish paper in town, called the Jewish Reporter. You can pick it up at several locations across the valley. Probably the closest to you would be at Sababa Grille, which is at the corner of Durango and Desert Inn: Sababa Grille & Restaurant
(P.S. - their falafel and schwarma are excellent!)

The closest shul to you would probably be Temple Beth Sholom (Conservative) in Summerlin (They would also be able to direct you to other resources if you give them a call). There is also another Congregation out towards Green Valley/Henderson called Ner Tamid (I do not know the exact location, I believe they are either Reform or Conservative as well). There is a quite large Jewish population in Vegas, it is just quite spread out. I don't think anything would be more than a 20-30 minute drive from where you are located though. There are actually close to 30-35 Synagogues/Centers around Las Vegas (which is sometimes astounding to me, as I would never expect it out there!) There is also a Chabad chapter in Las Vegas, if you were looking for a more Orthodox environment.

As for younger Jewish singles, check out the listings of events in the Jewish Reporter. I believe there may be something, but I don't recall offhand. You can also check out the Hillel Chapter of UNLV, I'm sure they have resources available.

Hope this all helps. Best of luck!

Temple Sinai in Summerlin on Hillpointe has some great programs. It is a reform temple however it has quite a few things going for it. The Largest percentage of its population is 20 - 40 , It is very concerned with the continuation of the Jewish population in Las Vegas, and it has a rabbi that is very involved in Jewish education. My son is currently going to hebrew school, and taking courses in Jewish culture and my wife is in the middle of converting.
