Has anybody here done it? (in May)

Suggestions/Advice is wanted on which route should be taken to get there with the safest road conditions with using less amount of time in the beginning of May.

Drive through Oregon/California or Oregon/Idaho?

I've done SLC to Seattle, but never LV to Seattle.

Google map shows either route is within 20 total miles, but Oregon-Idaho-Nevada shows 2 hours less travel time (17:10 instead of 19:20)

Did a return trip up there from Vegas last June. Avoid Portland!! found that out the hard way going up, so returned via central WA and OR through Susanville. The state roads were a little slower but less of a trauma. Took about the same time but way less stress and beautiful country coming back.

Default Done that !

I did the SEA-LV drive last March when I wanted to bring my car over with some stuff.

I took the ID-NV route with an overnight stop at Twin Falls, ID. Yes, the route is 2 hours
less than the CA-NV route using I-5, but you will be driving thru desolate stretches of
Northern NV with no cell service for long distances.

I like driving in general but this was not a fun drive. I would rather fly unless driving was the
only option. If driving, I would recommend taking the CA route via I-5 and Bakersfield.

I plan on staying overnight in Twin Falls since it is the 1/2 way point. What made it not fun going through ID-NV route? Boring? Scary?

I forgot to add, how were the road conditions along the way once you were in northern Nevada all the way to Las Vegas?

I've made this trip several times, several routes. I prefer going thru Oregon/Idaho/Utah ... I-90, to 84, then 15. Overnight near Twin Falls. More scenic, less traffic, fewer cities.

Scenic & Less Traffic are the main pros in me wanting to take this route, instead of going through OR-CA

If drove through Klamath Falls -> Susanville -> Reno -> Fallon -> LV .

Honestly the worst roads are in California (cracked and worn down). If you're towing the only scary spot is coming down the side of the bluff about 5-10 miles before you hit Susanville. Once you hit NV, however, the hwy/roads are practically new.

Going through Goldfield is a bit creepy (the only town we entirely lost GPS service in, driving through in the middle of the night...Ghost Adventures did a few episodes on the old/abandoned hotel in that town that sits on hwy 95).

If you enjoy astronomy bring a telescope and you could stop in the middle of the desert at night out there along the 95....it's usually a very good opportunity to see millions of stars.
