Or if you must go into a DMV, use Dash Pass.

Dash pass... I was in line for 30 min and I only had to wait 15 min once I got in and sat down. Everyone else in line with me was told they had a 2-3 hour wait

If you want the real ID, that will get you on planes, you need to go in person with additional documents. My husband just did his in January and I have this joyful event coming up in June. The info for this is on the website.

That doesn't go into effect until 2020.

update: so i tried dash pass text around 8 am and it says not available. so i was on the line outside at 9 am, got inside around 10 and was done around 12 30.. so 3.5 hrs wait. i did the real ID and since my birth year was even number, renewal is in 8 yrs! yippee can't wait those lines. i showed passport, SS card and bills, paid 42$ and new photo, i looked haggard on that photo after 8 hrs shift from work...
