We're heading to Newport Beach at the end of this month for the start of our longer annual vacation of the year. We got a great deal on the Marriott's Condos there. We were hoping that el Nino wasn't going to be a bother at that point, but we knew from prior reports it would likely occur during the winter months from January - March this year.

From the recent reports I'm wondering if we need to be concerned about flooding and mudslides on the coast. If the roads are clear and the property alright then we'll still be able to go. However, we're keeping an eye on their news in case we need to assess changing our plans.

'It's just ugly out': El Niño storm delivers an inch of rain in parts of O.C.

I can guarantee you there will be no mudslides in Newport Beach. Laguna Beach, on the other hand, may see more mudslides like those of 1978.

Why? Because it rained for a few hours? Hahaha. A few hours of rain does not equal the greatest El Nino ever in recorded history. Oh, a recorded history that extends a whopping .00000002% of the history of the planet by the way!

Go back to your hole!

Thank you for the reassurance! I was hoping someone would have more familiarity with the area. I see Laguna Beach is just below the Marriott Newport Coast Villas but we're right next to it in the crystal cove area along the coast. I don't know if that make a difference but if it does we'll drive up the 1 to what appears to be the main Newport Beach area. I hope the storm system passes without significance and we are able to have a nice relaxing, beautiful vacation at the end of this month. Maybe even get to enjoy Laguna Beach as well if all goes well.

And here we are 1 day later and those numbers have fallen by 2% since yesterday. 127 / 118 / 97

And the bozos at The Weather Channel Seem to think that temps will be above normal in the sierras and western rockies for the remainder of winter so I guess it all depends on which weather bozo you choose to follow.
