I love the saying "The best way to predict the future is to create it".

Las Vegas is still a "young" city compared to San Fran, Portland or Seattle. Vegas is still a teenager and is finding itself outside of gambling. It's a quite pro business (as opposed to CA, OR or WA) is a central hub to most of the SouthWest, and people are moving here in droves. Since moving here 4 years ago I've met some amazing people with a huge variety of interests. With it's fantastic infrastructure Vegas is poised to grow into a world class city in years to come. If you really love the arts here's your chance to move to a city with a fledgling arts culture and get involved in help shaping it's future. I bet in cities like San Fran, Portland and Seattle the Arts scene is well established and quite political. Vegas gives you a chance to get in on the ground floor.

I am sorry that you can not afford to live in a "cultured" place where you really desire.
You should have known when you spent your time in college doing a "radio-tv-film" major. Your parents are very generous to have you live with them, considering you are in your 30's already.
Perhaps you can move to those cultured cities once you figure out a way to make more money (maybe a computer tech). But for now, it does sound like you don't have many options but moving to a cheaper city such as Las Vegas.

It seems that all there is to do in las vegas is go out to eat, shop, go to the movies and stay home and watch tv.

My girlfriends good friends are encouraging us to move to las vegas.
To be honest you are correct. Most people your age overcome the boredom by either doing the nightlife and a little gambling or they have kids. You probably would be disappointed with the lifestyle, but maybe it will be worth it for the lower cost.

Las Vegas is lacking in many ways, from museums to other activities outside of the casinos there isn't as much to do compared to major cities. Las Vegas is a suburb built around a bunch of casinos...not a real city by any stretch. I would carefully consider your options prior to moving to Las Vegas.

Unless you like the outdoors. If you own a car and live in Las Vegas then you are an hour to a day-trip away from endless activities.

I am afraid that you are priced out on most of the metro cities.
What's your other options? Albuquerque? Kansas city? Oklahoma city?

Most of the coastal cities me and my girlfriend are priced out of. I have heard good things about Oklahoma City.

Also smaller california inland cities like Bakersfield,Fresno and Modesto are still affordable.
