Vegas is one of the cheapest cities to live in this country.
If you still have to worry about the cost here, you are running out of options.

Cost of living in LV is among the lowest in the country thanks to no state income tax, which explains why folks have been moving to those states in droves as compared to the states with income tax, including those which have introduced an income tax over the past 30-50 years, with predictable DROPS in tax revenue being the inevitable result.

I've been here one month now... living west of the strip in a nice one bedroom (55+ building) for $600/month, very convenient area (Valley View and Sahara), very quiet. I like it and walk to the LVAC (30 minutes) almost every day.

The cheapest ACA policy will cost you $400 monthly... and electric will probably cost you $30 without AC. so that's about $1000 there. Car insurance is EXPENSIVE!!! It costs me DOUBLE what it did in LA. State Farm refused to transfer my discount to NV, but I'm hoping to get some back after installing the in-drive device.

For me:
Rent: $600
Utilities (only electric): $60
Health Ins: $400
HSA (max contribution): $385
Auto Ins (Car paid for - liability only): $65
Gasoline: $10
Internet (don't have a TV): $35
Phone (ooma): one time $109, then $4
Cell (TMobile pay as you go): $10
Food (cheap produce at El Super and Marianas) (no meat except tuna): $150
Gym (LVAC $425 for two years then $125 annually): $10
Personal and Household Items: $20
Entertainment: $75
Netflix: $7
Rhapsody: $10
Clothes: $15
Other Insurance (umbrella, renters): $35
Misc (?): $40

So I get by around $2000, but I'm miserly to be sure that I won't run out of $$$ and have to exit my retirement and I fully fund my HSA.

Las Vegas is actually middle of the pack as far as cost of living. Cost of living index for Las Vegas is 101.9 compared to the US average of 100.

Link: Cost of Living Index for Selected U.S. Cities

Cost of living is certainly much lower than the coastal cities would be but there are many cities in the US with even lower cost of living. Roughly half of them actually.

yup. I know someone who lost the house due to the housing bubble back in 2008, lost money in stock crash, and is still now deeply in debt because of the gambling habit.

If you find a roommate and a 2BR/2BA, rent could lower to as low as $350 ish. Saves some money there.
