You do realize that this list of people lived there in the 1940s-1970s, right? I like some of the neighborhood architecture, but the neighborhoods themselves were not like they once were.

Most, if not all, of those people are dead. I think Lefty Rosenthal might be alive in Florida. I've been to a few of those homes back in the day when Red McIlvaine was living. In fact they were not new when he bought his. Back when they were all living it was one of the best parts of town. I remember when it was built back when I lived off Twain myself. The houses are old, and a lot are rundown now; but they are surrounded by the highest crime area in Las Vegas. Nice try though.

A lot of people like those mid-mod style homes, and they'd be great if this were Palm Springs. But, it isn't. But you could fix one up and you'd have a sort of nice place in the midst of a rundown area. You'd probably never get your money back though, unless you could convince others to do the same. And, you'd have a low ceilinged, no closet space, house with probably a small kitchen and baths.

Quite all right if that's what you want. But resale might be tough.

Thanks all. It's a damn shame that all of these nice homes are in bad areas with bad schools. I'm selling our home in LA and moving to TX, and since we are gonna be getting a large profit since the home has no note on it me and my wife were talking about taking some money and buying a nice historic MCM home in a nice area to retire in in Vegas (yes we gamble and that's how we plan to spend our old age) and renting it until we are ready to move in. I plan on retiring or at least semi retiring in about 10 years (by 45) and me and my wife want to have another kid so schools will still matter. Also it will be hard to rent out to quality people if it doesn't have good schools.

I was hoping that some of the historic parts of Vegas still had decent schools and were not in the hood, but I looked up the schools for Paradise Palms and it's all 90% free lunch 60% ESL which is just unacceptable. It sucks that these areas have turned to crap.

How historic you got to be? I would think you can find a nice older joint in the NW or SW or SE that has age character, livability and good schools. And the well off of Vegas have been enjoying Our Lady Queen of Las Vegas for many years. As long as you don't openly hate Catholics they will take your kid and do a good job and then you do Gorman or one of the private high schools. It is not free but not terribly expensive either.

Paradise Crest, Hazel Crest, Oak Crest neighborhoods, which I recently walk thru with my ferret at night, are also nice areas, near Sandhill/Flamingo. All well-established neighborhoods with hardly a hair out of place! And safe as can be, for someone who walks through these areas between 2-4am.

I don't see what Buzz is talking about, with Paradise Palms, surrounded by high crime areas, Huntridge as well. There seems to be a unique collection of people who live in these older neighborhoods, and I spot any number of luxury cars sitting in the driveways.

I think a number of these people who live in these areas are anti-HOA, anti-master planned community type of people who wouldn't be caught dead living anywhere else in the valley! They seem to enjoy the freedom of doing whatever they want to their houses, yards, and using whatever colors they wish.

They could also be convient freaks, they don't want to drive any great distance for shopping and their entertainment.

As reported, the Millennial generation are greatly attracted to these areas and they may be the great hope of revitalizing these neighborhoods, and sending the real estate prices skyward!

Every week they publish a map of crimes in the LV Review Journal, and in reviewing these areas I've walked thru the past few months, I don't see the crime that Buzz speaks of or the surrounding areas.

Perhaps the people who live there, smile at the prophecy that our suburbs are out future slums. And that's already happening all across the country!

We moved from NYC 6 mos ago and purchased a gorgeous 5 br,/4ba well maintained ranch near Valley View, and Oakey. We originally wanted to buy in Scotch 80's, but we were fast outpriced there (we should have moved faster). The stretch of areas of Scotch 80's, McNeil Estates, & Artesian Heights are beautiful homes with great bones, and there are gorgeous ranch and modern/revival homes north of the area by Palomino that are not cookie cutter. For people who are city centric, they may find moving here to this area an easy adjustment bc downtown, the arts center and amazing amazing untapped vintage shopping is in this area. There's a Traders Joe on Decatur, and Frankie's Tiki Lounge is right on Charleston.

The houses in this area are for people who appreciate character and unique layout, space, quiet and no HOAs! :-). I look at crimemappers every week, the rate of burglaries and theft is very low. The privacy cannot be beat, and the space is amazing. You are also literally 15-20 mins away from almost everything.

We love it, I'd definitely advice you driving through the area and checking it out...come see for yourself!

Nope. Lefty kicked the bucket a few years ago.
