Hi everyone! I am posting to request ideas and information on behalf of a good female friend who is in desperate need of a small, self-contained place to live with reasonable rent. A casita, mother -in-law apartment, or guest house adjacent to a private home would be ideal. She was living with family until they decided to renovate the home as investment property. This was unexpected and she had to move quickly and ended up in a place that is not working out. She has a dog, about 12 pounds, and three cats. She is, quiet, professional, respectful, and responsible as a tenant, and does nor smoke or drink. She has a job and a car. She cannot afford an apartment on her own and has had difficulty finding a pet friendly place in a safe area. Please share any information or ideas you may have....DM is fine. Thanks in advance for your help!

350 to 450. Prefers West or Northwest due to proximity of work. Thanks!

Good luck, that price is way too low. That's barely get a room price, nevermind get a casita price. Most of my friends renting rooms are getting $500+. A casita should fetch $600-$650 with utilities.

450 and under in a nice area is not possible.

I don't know about Casita's in the area but even the Mother-in-Law homes on properties in the downtown "ghetto" area were recently going for more than that price in her budget and these weren't even renovated. They were all starting more in the 500+ range.

It's thoughtful of you to look for your friend though. I wish them the best of luck.

There are 1 bdrm apartments/condos in OP's price range, they just aren't in the nicest area. It may be acceptable to OP though.

Thanks for your feedback! I will let her know that the price range may not work and she may have to reconsider that. But how would we find somewhere like that assuming the budget is appropriate?

Just found out she qualifies for senior housing. Thanks again for any suggestions.

Be careful with senior housing. Many of them do not accept pets. Which is really stupid, because when one is older and living alone, a pet or two or three makes you feel a lot less lonely.
