I think my A/C went out last night. I can hear it turn on, but the fan outside isn't spinning. Right now the temp inside is 85 and my dogs are not happy right now...

As I sit here just after noon while waiting on my 11:00 A/C appointment , I thought maybe someone here can PM me the name of a reputable company that won't gouge me. The unit is 20 years old, so I most definitely will need a new one. Thanks.

Also, if you're a costco member, they also have a/c contractors. Good deal with Costco backing.

There are a number of cheap failures for no fan. So do not presume the unit is dead. Most likely is a dead fan few hundred dollars.

Usually for an AC condenser fan not working is the start/run capacitor has blown in the heat.

Lin Air was great for us too. Our 16 year old A/C quit two years ago. I called them after reading reviews on Angie's List, and a live person answered the phone at 9:00 on a Saturday night. They were heavily booked on Sunday, but someone came out first thing Monday and told us the system needed to be replaced. They fit us in on Wednesday and installed a new A/C that we just love.

Deke's Refrigeration and A/C. Honest, Honest, Honest.

Saved me $2,200 from the next lowest contractor after checking with 8 different A/C companies.

My friend called Deke's to have his 20 year old a/c replaced. Turned out he only needed a new motor.

Honest, honest, honest!

How you wish you had a home warranty now.

Home warranty is a joke, I think maybe one out of ten have a good experience with it,
Maybe they will change an appliance, but anything major? HELL NO
they tell you that it's not covered, or that it is only covered for 'x' and you need 'y'

If you absolutely know nothing about home repair, and are unwilling to deal with it,
Then a home warranty may be for you, but anyone.. ANYONE who has a lick of common
sense will get a trusted handyman, or do it themselves!

When we bought our place here, I made sure to contact the HW company and ask them specifically if a 3-4 ton roof mounted AC unit would be covered against a total failure. I was told yes and I have it in writing. Also includes all installation costs.
