I'm new to Las Vegas and live in the northwest area. I love it here, but I think my one complaint is that it's quite a drive to the nearest grocery store (compared to what I'm used to.)

Does anybody know if there are plans to build a grocery store in Providence? Or any other stores besides a gas station, for that matter? Thanks in advance.

I just sold a property out there. There were plans on the books for a grocery store and strip mall back down by Hualapi and the 215. It is waiting for more development before they break ground.

Also, there are plans for a strip mall with store farther north closer the the Kyle canyon rd and Hwy 95. That too will take a while. So for now, I think you are stuck running down to Durango or over to Farm Rd.

Thank you for that info. It helps to know that there will (hopefully) be a grocery store here eventually, even if I have to wait a while.

Just shop at the Asian and Mexican markets. What you spend in gas you will more than save in groceries. Ten pounds of potatoes are currently selling for 87 cents at El Super.

Pair that with a year's supply of Hatch chiles at Smith's for $18, and that's good eats for quite a while.

I've heard that advice before. Well, about Asian markets; I hadn't heard the same about Mexican markets. I'll be looking into this, thanks.

What's to look into? Don't you get the flyers every week? First thing I do every Wednesday is see what's on deep discount in El Super's produce department.

I haven't gotten those flyers. Just Vons, Smith's, Albertson's, a couple of random coupons for Chinese restaurants, etc. I looked up El Super, and all locations in LV are far from me, so maybe that's why?

The northwest side of town does not have much in the way of ethnic markets. Even now ( I'm near Decatur 215) the nearest one is a bit of a hike, and we do not receive their ads.

You can get the ads online and try a weekly outing for produce. My favorite is La Bonita. A quick google search will turn up their weekly ad. It's a madhouse on Wednesdays when they have their best specials.
