Granted, if it's 60 cents or a dollar difference within a mile or 2, that's a bigger deal. But, to me, if it's $2.99 or $3.19, it really doesn't matter much.
True enough but over 10 tanks that's $15 or 100 tanks that's $150. One tank about every 3.65 days is about what I do. $150 per year is $150 per year.

From AAA Based on 15,000 miles - Annual Cost Per Mile (2015)
Small Sedan - $0.449
Medium Sedan - $0.581
Large Sedan - $0.710
Sedan Average - $0.580
Minivan - $0.625
SUV (4WD) - $0.708

So if you are putting 15 gallons in the tank of your average sedan, if you can find a station within 2.5 miles that has gas for .10 less you are essentially breaking even. If you go 2.5 miles or more, out of your way,to save .10/gallon or less you are losing money in the long run.

Agreed. Assuming a single purpose mile. Most miles I put on a vehicle are multipurpose. Groceries, mail, errands, wash, AND fuel stops all may be factors in any given mile.

So driving from my house to Costco just for fuel make no sense but since I need go to there anyway it does make sense!

Seriously thinking about making my next car a diesel. Seems like diesel is much cheaper than regular gas and if memory serves it used to be the other way around

CNG has been holding steady at $2.10-$2.50 per "gallon" for the six years I've owned a CNG truck.

The problem is being supplied out of southern CA and with a major refinery down until Christmas time.

I doubt there is a lot that can be done. You could beef up the pipelines to SLC...but that would probably just increase the cost of gas in SLC. Question of refinery capacity.
