You never said what the other location options were. Everything is relative.

Love the town, but can't stand most of the people. But at the same time, some of the best people in my life I've met here! I'm lucky. Getting a job in Oregon. Lived here for 20 something years. Red Rock Canyon is awesome. Some days driving westbound, it's amazing to look at the view. The casinos suck. I only go to the strip when people come to town and I'm forced to visit them; otherwise, stay away from that street. Great Chinatown district so that I can get something to eat and lots of Indian restaurants. But then we move away - spend every weekend driving back - get to where we moved to - hate it there - and move back here over, and over, and over. I call it the Las Vegas Curse! You just can't stay away from this place. I lived in a lot of states, but this is the only one that I keep coming back to, but not this time. Not coming back here . . . Oh, and the jobs here suck too. Under paid, low wages, the least a job pays, the more crap you have to put up with. At least I get to see Gregg Allman every year for the past couple of years - that's like the best!

Tap water is easily fixed. However, I think that most locals stay away from the casino and tourist scene.

Like Hawaii, one should be healthy and wealthy to live here. There are few good jobs, most jobs are aimed at the low end service, tip wage jobs. Health care is horrid. If you have money and can travel a lot, Las Vegas is not half bad. I avoid most people here as so many seem to be below the quality that I seek.

What exactly is your job?

I agree with qingguy, that you should go where you can make the best compromise between opportunity for career advancement and private life. At your age, I would give career opportunity more weight than private life... but it really depends on what your profession is.

Your decision also depends on how easily you can get another job. If you don't like it, you just pick up and go somewhere else.

I'm curious if you want to be in CA, why you didn't take a job with a company in CA. There are LOTS of IT jobs in LA and Silicon Valley, so I'm guessing you're not in IT.

But there's a lot more to this town than casinos. After a while you don't pay any attention to those things anyway.

And the water thing is a myth. Our water is no worse than any other tap water. But most people don't drink tap water anymore, so get a filter, or bottled water if you don't like the taste.

The thing you have to ask yourself is can you get along without the family and friends that you have now in Nashville. And, what kind of interests do you have that Las Vegas can fill. Probably anything you can think of, and a thousand things you never thought of.
Did you read what you said? Yeah, think I'd stay in Tenn. with the trees and nice atmosphere instead of the hot air and sand. Life's worth more that bright lights and heat.

Well this all depends on what you're in town, if you're into smoking drinking gambling and other activities and it's a great place long as you don't go broke, if you're not into those things and made a clean boring life then you're not can enjoy Las Vegas, the only good thing is the desert and for me getting away from the strip. I myself hate the strip and try never to go there. Some of the people can be very difficult to deal with, Las Vegas is a very money driven town, certain people throw you under the bus in a heartbeat. It's a difficult city to make friends and as the locals don't trust anybody especially if you're from out of town. It's a transient town so there are lots of people coming and going.

As if those things exist nowhere else. And I can't believe someone would turn down a good job because the tap water there didn't taste good. Seriously?

Doesn't the mineral-loaded water taste terrible all over the Southwest? Everyone I know in Arizona and Southern California has a refrigerator with a water dispenser on the door or buys bottled water. When I drive in LA I see Sparkletts trucks delivering water all over the city. More common than Porsches.

As for the OP, I think he should judge only by the job. Take the best one on offer. If the jobs themselves are all the same, which one is in the nicest building in the best location or has a manager he connects with? If he thinks he can't live without greenery and he's a hipster, then he should go to Portland. If he needs sunshine, likes to hike or bike, would love a condo complex with plenty of amenities, and would be satisfied with good music and famous comedians for entertainment, he should choose LV (which is also the quickest drive to LA). If he wants the big city atmosphere with pro sports and choices upon choices and the biggest airport of the three, Phoenix should be it.

Let's face it, if the boi's never been west of the Mississippi, he probably won't stay out here more than a couple of years anyway. Unless he REALLY hates humidity, in which case the Southwest may be the promised land.

Go on the Phoenix C-D thread and you'll negative attitudes there, too. Nothing to do in Phoenix? It's the sixth largest city in the entire nation! I remember one guy who was complaining about nothing to do and I threw down the gauntlet. I said name me one thing you really want to do that you can't do in Phoenix. He told me there weren't enough amusement park rides.
