Be careful MacG. the time periods do not align. The TOU runs way later than the good output from your array.

We need some clever mechanism that tilts those panels from east to west as the day goes on...fun design problem...and the mechanism has to be tough. I would think you get to make it survive 100mph winds. (Or whatever pulls your roof off.

Prime time is 1-7pm.

I considered TOU and solar when I was considering solar. You'll have a few hours each day when the panels aren't collecting much and power runs $0.30/kwh

They've engineered it to financially punish people who use juice during the day -- I would throw the main switch every day if not for the hassle of re-programming everything every day during the summer.

"Summer Peak Summer on–peak is June 1 – September 30, from 1 to 7 p.m. daily. $ 0.36792 kWh"
-- TAKEN FROM NVENERGY'S WEB SITE

In the 'peak of summer' will be when I am generating the most power, we are talking solar generation till 6PM
so for that one hour I will be paying that .37 per KWH, but from what i read, If I generate a KWH during peak,
they will credit me that peak KWH at the same rate (so It's a wash)

Am I missing something here in my math?

Jonathan

You could always turn off the AC for one hour.

That is not my understanding but I have been wrong before. I do not believe they credit you at the same rate as they charge you. That is they credit you at around 11 cents per KWH and charge you in the peak period .37 per kwh. Actually if they will credit you .37 during that period it may pay you to build a much bigger array...

LOL that would be sweet, but I think its just a designation, a Peak KWH, vs a Non Peak KWH
NVenergy is like a bank, they give you .75% for your energy but charge you 4.00% for that same energy

Can your setup power the whole nine yards during peak time? That's a whole lot of electrons when everything is powered on.

The solar salesman who broke it down for me said that at my location, solar generation would be winding down for the day by 5 pm in the summer (and even earlier in winter).

The cheap prices during the off season are great. Don't get me wrong. But I really have to tighten the electrical belt during peak time in order to make the numbers work. This year I added industrial-strength timers to the refrigerators in order to stop paying peak rates for them. I simply don't open them midday. Every day during the summer is like living through a six-hour brown-out.
