. . . and after taking a vacation we had long planned (not to Vegas) and engaging in a lot of contemplation and making lists of pros and cons, my wife and I finally reaffirmed our decision to move to the Las Vegas area--it has, or is near, a bit of everything we want. Anywhere else on our list was necessitating trying to figure out how we could live in two places, going back and forth each year.

So, now we have to tackle the first big hurdle, and I'll ask, "Where are the Vegas-area employers on the forum?" We need jobs. We do not want to move without at least one of us having an employment commitment first.

Seriously, if there are any employers lurking around, I can send you our resumes. We're both very experienced. My wife has worked her whole career in finance, banking, international trade, related project/software development, etc.--she has an MBA. I've worked a wide variety of jobs, including many creative positions (writing, editing, graphic art, music production and engineering), radio (as a producer and as on-air talent), and my last position was as a Vice President of a mid-sized aesthetics industry manufacturer, distributor and school in Manhattan. I have my bachelor's (in philosophy).

You can respond privately if you like.

Ignore Mr. WannabeeRapper and his lack of proper spelling- he's obviously clueless.

Unfortunately, it's going to be tough to find employment without a Las Vegas address and phone number unless you're looking at key positions in either the casino or construction industries- you won't be taken seriously. Do you know anyone in town who's address you can use? If so, are you able to fly in on extremely short notice for interviews, and can you move quickly? Even some of the headhunters won't talk to you until you're in town.

I can move quickly, yes. And unfortunately, I do not know anyone's address that I can use, but there must be some intelligent employers in the area who wouldn't require that I live there first. Plenty of people acquire jobs long distance in various locales.

The word is still out there for employers to contact me. No need for peanut gallery comments--I'm not interested in or looking for advice, especially from someone who is functionally illiterate. There's no need to respond to this thread unless you're an interested employer or you know an interested employer.

You would think so, but given that there's such a large talent pool already in Vegas that can fill virtually any position, most employers will stick with the sure bet of the person who's already there vs the person who hasn't made the move yet- they look at them as being "more committed". Of course, if your skills/talents stand out far above the rest of the candidates, that's a different story, in which case you'll want to focus your search on companies that are in line with your past positions. I wouldn't count on getting any leads on this board.

Right . . . it's just that it can't hurt.

There's always a chance that not everyone reading threads here is either a grunt or a middle-aged guy taking a quick break from Halo 3 to surf the net and grab some Doritos before heading back to his mother's basement.

I don't see the point in insulting the people on this forum if you're asking for our help. I certainly don't fit this profile and am sure that many others do not as well.

Great, so you're an employer, Lis? What kind of business?

I'm not am employer, but (while I wasn't really offended) I just though that generalization (while probably not meant literally) was a bit unnecessary.

Did you read that I have a background in academic philosophy? It's probably not the best idea to initiate a discussion with me about what's "necessary" versus not.

Anyway, it might be of benefit to reread the statement you're referring to again--a bit more closely this time, with some standard literary devices in mind.
