While I do think the people that are ultimately being killed by vehicles are not being cautious, it is dangerous to be a pedestrian in most cities in America. We have designed our cities to not be pedestrian friendly and that is not good.

So, we built bridges, just for pedestrians, installed elevators and escalators to make them easier for everyone, and people STILL get hit by cars by being dumb.
The last 2 I heard about, the morons jumped over barriers that are there, specifically, to prevent people from going into the street.

Stupidity is the problem.

Ever see the CA law?

21954. (a) Every pedestrian upon a roadway at any point other than
within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an
intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the
roadway so near as to constitute an immediate hazard.
(b) The provisions of this section shall not relieve the driver of
a vehicle from the duty to exercise due care for the safety of any
pedestrian upon a roadway.

Note the (b) clause.

There's a lot of problems with the sidewalks and crosswalks designed for pedestrians. Mainly they are far apart and cause people to cross in dangerous areas.

Disagree -- laziness causes them to cross in dangerous areas. If they weren't lazy POSs, looking at their freakin' phones, they'd walk the grueling 100 yards to the crosswalk.

Just because the drivers need to slow-the-[censored] down, and pay attention to what-the-[censored] they're doing; it doesn't mean that the pedestrians are blameless.

Who's at fault? Probably both of them.

That's probably true. I took a long walk the other day from I-15 all the way to Fort Apache and I observed all the rules. But if you have to do it everyday, you probably start looking for short cuts that are unsafe and flouting traffic laws. Either way I think it's a good if people walk around, if I see people walking in neighborhoods, that gives me a good feeling and I drive safely and slow down to at least encourage people to walk.

It makes an area more pleasant when there are lots of pedestrians who aren't toothless tweakers begging for spare change.

It's refreshing to travel to places where that still happens.

My Cardiologist's kid got hit on Craig in some transfering Bus stuff for EDC. Bus was apparently going fast and clipped the kid on the side of the road. Knocked him over 150 feet. In CA the driver would clearly have gotten cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Against all of the initial prediction the kid is going to live. Probably some permanent damage but he is going to survive. Did an initial few days at UMC than father had him moved to Stanford. Did not believe anyone in LV was up to that level of traumatic chest injury.

Try Summerlin, Green Vallley Ranch, Centennial Hills or Spring Valley. No toothless tweakers and virtually no beggars. Fact it has been a couple of years since I got hit up by a pretty broad in the gas station to lend her gas money. So even when we had a scam or two running they were a better class of scammer.
