I do agree with you LowTune, I visited Vegas many a times and found it good place to spend time. Vegas is the attraction for mainly youngsters and gamblers. People who are not interested in games may not like the place but Vegas has many more things apart from casinos. So one who had not explored Vegas properly may have such negative thoughts. It may be the reason for such repo of Vegas.

Over the past couple of years, I've had the opportunity to spend some in the Las Vegas area away from The Strip. One thing I've observed is there aren't very many upscale areas or neighborhoods throughout the metro, and even the allegedly "nice" parts of town are not all that nice.

For example, for such a highly regarded area both locally and nationally, I found Henderson to be quite dumpy relative to other comparable suburban areas in nearby states. Most of the people you saw out and about had a trashy, low-class look, consistent with people in the Inland Empire of Southern California. Lots of jacked-up pickup trucks and beaten-up vehicles, pawn shops, check-cashing centers. Not to mention the city is filled with casinos, which I thought was odd for a suburban community, even in the Las Vegas area.

Maybe crime rates in that area are low relative to most other parts of the Las Vegas Valley, but I wouldn't necessarily describe Henderson as "upscale" or "family-friendly" in the same regard as it's alleged peers of Irvine, CA, Scottsdale, AZ or Plano, TX.

Other "nice" parts of town like Summerlin, for example, were generally confined to a small geographic areas and felt like "islands" surrounded by a sea of ghetto, crime-ridden areas.

LOL, trashy low class look?

I found Summerlin to be quite nice. I never remember feeling unsafe or that I was in a really dangerous ghetto while in Las Vegas.

It all depends on what part of Henderson. Henderson has over a quarter million people. Get up into MacDonald Highlands, Anthem Highlands, Seven Hills, and let me know how that compares to the other cities you mentioned.

Sure, you can drive down Basic or Water, and not be impressed. Henderson is a city of extreme opposites.. depending on where you are in the city.

In my opinion I would say it is because Las Vegas, Nv like Orlando, Fl has a lot of visitors who visit, yet never leave the touristy areas of town. Many of the tourist areas are surrounded by the older parts of the city that haven't had any life put into them for awhile.

Los Vegas receives so much negativity for the following reasons.

1. Gambling
2. Hoars
3. Organized crime
4. Pornography
5. Yuppie, Trustfund-babies, Art-hoars, but minus the hipsters ( Just throwing this in here ).
6. Tourism
7. Angry people
8. Curruption

Basically due to the many stories about organized crime, prostitution and gambling, people do not really see Los Vegas as a place to raise there children or retire. It is like Missippi.

Somebody said NYC. Yeah so your going to point that out.......I really doubt Los Vegas have the culture, laid back scene, or innocence that NYC has. However I do understand those colorful characters that you could only find in NYC. People dressed up like a freak show with hair gel, and women who look like hoars but is really somebodies mother. I mean that extra cheapness surely does exsist in the city scene but that is every city in general.

Then your right there next to California and prostitution is legal somewhere about. Think about that in general. In fact a couple of states seem to mimic the whole Vegas California things and have the same exact thing going on. While we could compare and contrast with other nations and there versions of Los Vegas and hidden gems. I am only mentioning the notorious ideas that people remember Vegas for.

So in general, if I say Vegas, people will not think, wholesome wonderful place to bring a school-bus of kettle ready peculating young girlies. People do think of the "strip" and then of course there is history like Elvira and those Tiger brothers. Los Vegas to people is like an over the top Times Square running 24/7. People think porn studios, people think mad gangsters.

If you can make Los Vegas look like a friendly place for elderly people to live, and children to play, or even a safe place just to sit or take a nap. Then do so. That negative confused image is edged into peoples brains. In fact I still have the image of the elderly tour bus, where a bunch of idiots spend hours upon days gambling there life savings at Casino's.

That alone looks like a bad investment plan. Screw everybody else I am going to Los Vegas. Speaking of the stupidity gambling in various states have been given the go which destorys tourism to Los Vegas.

There goes my two cents.

You simply have not broken the code. When Henderson is proposed it does not mean all of Henderson...it means that part near or south of the 215. And in much of Summerlin and Henderson you have to get past the gates.

Crime numbers are clear. Henderson ranks up there with the US best on crime. Top 5% of cities abouve 200,000.

Reading this made my head hurt and I'm still not sure what it's saying.

Occasionally you see the language slaughtered. But this one reaches a new level.

How can anyone take such a writing seriously? Ignorance is its own reward?
