The Superintendent has jumped in with a plan...Basically divide the School system into Precincts using the existing Trustee territories. This is one that will be loved by those trying to dump the inner city.

Also a weak plan with the reality being the continuation of CCSD with another layer of bureaucracy in the middle. Central services would dominate including control of magnets and such.

Superintendent pitches own plan for splitting school district | Las Vegas Review-Journal

It would however let the suburbs keep score separately. Thereby making at least three districts look pretty good.

What difference would it make if you changed superintendents?

What difference would it make if it was broken up into 12 fully independent districts?

What this does is allows the better suburbs to claim numbers more in keeping with the local demographics. I think that is all that is actually desired.

Same thing as charters and ESAs to private schools. Nothing that will actually change anything...just get the better off distant from the less well off.

Let's put North Las Vegas and Summerlin in the same district.

poor inner city kids; teachers don't want to teach them, parents don't want to parent them, society doesn't want them.... after years and years of neglect they eventually end up being too far gone.

I was against separate districts because that meant more top tier positions getting top money that is completely unnecessary.

I think breaking up the CCSD is the only way to break up the lowest common denomination thinking that dominates big school districts. It's also the only way to get at least one high quality district (if not more), that could attract better educated people to Las Vegas.

That isn't going to happen.

We're basically trying to gerrymander ourselves into having at least one powerhouse school district. The problem is, these new districts are going to be managed by exactly the same kind of people who currently manage CCSD. You don't really think that competent leadership is suddenly going to spring up and do away with all the standardized tests, do you?

This is merely a means to jettison the poor -- write them off and eventually pack them off to the prison life which surely awaits them. We could eliminate the middleman by turning the central valley's schools into prisons.

The plan they put out seems to be mostly smoke and mirrors. If that's the case then what you say is l likely true. If they broke up the districts in such a way that they'd really be independent, it would work if the parents in the districts wanted to get involved and politically active. And, actually, the same can be said of both the rich and poor areas (however the parents in rich areas tend to be more demanding.)
