Re-read the article. They're being hired at the same compensation. They never had a 100k salary. Income, yes, but salary, no. People will still tip.

Read between the lines -- all the new guys aren't going to get that grandfathered income. This is a way to take what was once a good job and over the course of one generation, turn it into a [excrement] job.

Are they getting rid of tipping? It would be kind of stupid even for the outsource contractor to do that.

Any time I use valet on the strip, I would tip an average of $10. Now that it is rumored that valet parking will cost $15-20, I don't know if a $10 tip plus $15-20 fee is worth it. I really like helping the valet guys with decent tips but I may have to drop the tip down to $5.

Some of the nicest hotels in San Diego are around $30 a day to park.

Things will get interesting.

Valets are going to be negatively affected, I believe that there will be an extra fee on top of the parking fee to use the valet. As a result they will lose tips from people who will not park at a MGM property, from those that will self park instead of valet to avoid valet fee, and from those that will either not tip because they have to pay to use the valet or from those that will tip less because the parking fee.

It's no different than people saying that they subtract the credit card fee from their tip when paying for cab.

And the Wal-Martification of Las Vegas continues. These corporations can't stand it if any of their workers are making any money that they themselves could have. LV used to be a place where a hard worker with some moxie could make a very solid living. It gets harder every year.

And if you run a small business here in town, better thank your lucky stars for the culinary Union. If it wasn't for them, the casinos would be paying all those casino workers minimum wage with no bennies and none of them would have money to spend in your shop.

The greed is overwhelming. Seems like companies in Vegas(the US in general) will screw anyone over to make an extra buck. So they finally figured out a way to make valet a lousy job. Yes, the tips will go down when people have to pay. And of course the workers will all be part time with no benefits.

What will it take for employers to figure out they need to curb their greed and share the wealth a little? It is not good business to treat people badly. I did a little unofficial research on the EDR. Interesting. The people I spoke with said it started because people had to steal food/leftovers to live because the wages were so poor. Wake up! People need real jobs!

It became abundantly clear to me a long time ago that America was headed down the same path as Mexico -- a ruling class, the poor, and not much in between. And since poverty sucks, I'm shooting for the ruling class.

Nothing has happened in the last 30 years that has changed my prediction of our long-term economic future.
