Hi!

Im thinking about visiting Vegas from overseas. My last vacation was in Spain and I partly couldnt enjoy it due to a lot of smoking taking place almost everywhere, since Spain is a smoking country.

How is the smoking on the Strip? I get that Vegas is a smoking city, but I suspect that a lot of smoking will take place outside on the strip regardless of a lot of people are walking there. Is that a correct assumption?

I dont care about the smoking going on in the casinos because im not the gamling type of guy and will never go there anyway. But if the Strip is full of smoking maybe im better off going somewhere else.

If I go it would be in July next year

Cheers!

The strip is outdoors, so you will encounter smoke if you are walking directly behind a smoker. In the casinos, yes, you may smell smoke and see smoke, as it's a smoking environment. However, there are also non-smoking areas of the casinos, as well as smoking not being allowed in the malls, walkways, shops, etc.

The majority of hotels and casinos are very well ventilated. I've been a smoker and a non-smoker since i've lived here, and the smoke is not bad enough that you would experience any ill-effects, unless you are hyper-sensitive to smoke. If you are, avoid the smaller off-strip places.

Restaurants here are all non-smoking, unless there is gaming in the establishment. Then, there is smoking in the bar area, but not in the restaurant area, for the most part.

Hope this helps.

So, what is your experience of the smoking on the Strip? Are there a lot of people smoking comparing to the rest of the country? Because if one in three persons is smoking and there are 10 persons on a congregated street that means its really hard to avoid the smoke. When I was in the center of Madrid, i felt smoke in almost every breath i took, and it made me sick. And I wanna enjoy walking on the Strip, not have the feeling that im an involuntary smoker if you know what i mean

Raiderman got it right. If you are sensitive to people smoking outdoors it may be best to avoid. In the casinos smoking is usually limited to the gaming area. The bigger/modern casinos like the Bellagio and the Venetian have excellent ventilation and you wouldnt even know there is smoking going on. Places like boulder station and the cannery on the other hand can be very smoky but that is their appeal. Restaurants without gaming will be smoke free. Bars that have gaming at the bar area will have smoking allowed.

In July, you'll be outside in anywhere from 105 to 110+ degrees. Fewer people will be outside smoking while they are walking, as most will opt to smoke indoors in the air conditioning. Plus, there are few areas on the strip where you are bottlenecked. Many places have wide sidewalks, so you won't have to be "intimate" with the person in front of you

The gaming floor smells like an ashtray. People smoke everywhere, even in the areas where smoking isn't permitted. And restaurants near the gaming floor also smell like a ashtray -- not quite as bad as the floor. The smoke wafts in, there's no way to stop it. Especially not when you have the guy who chain smokes Cohiba cigars wandering the floor, looking like an extra in a 1970s porno. I'll grant that the Strip casinos take ventilation seriously. But it's not enough.

As for outside. You're going to smell smoke. People walk from casino to casino, smoking the whole time.

If you've ever been in a two-pack a day smoker's house, that's what Las Vegas smells like. There are bars and restaurants my wife and I have visited and promptly left because of the smell. That's just how it is.

If you want a comparison to Spain -- Las Vegas is far, far, far worse than Madrid when it comes to cigarette smoke. And the air in Barcelona is positively crisp by comparison.

As noted by others, all the modern resorts on The Strip have excellent ventilation. Aria has a special system that moves air from the floor up so smoke does not spread. My wife is very sensitive to smoke and is not bothered by it at all in the new resorts. Now, the old resorts... that's another story.

So, enforcement is weak when it comes to places where smoking is banned?

Its sad if Vegas is a smoking sanctuary.

How can ventilation stop you from having second smoke from the guy beside you by the way?

If Vegas is so much worse than Madrid I have to reconsider about coming.

Yes Barcelona is better than Madrid in that area
