I saw a TV commercial last week featuring the head of NV Energy bragging that they fully supported solar.

I call BS.

They were trying to guarantee that electric costs would balloon to eventually make up the extra I'd be immediately paying until the costs actually increased. Solar City over promised customers and claim to predict the future, the fact that they guaranteed net metering rates to customers before the net metering case shows more negligence on their part.

Another huge detractor to their business model is that they own the panels and equipment; after your 20 year contract expires they either remove their equipment and move on or sell it to you at "market rate". The other no-go with Solar City is selling your house is now contingent upon the buyer being approved to take over your Solar City contract. Ridiculous.

I'm waiting for the next level of solar panels (cheaper more efficient) paired with battery storage. Cut the need for NV Energy's grid out of the equation.

Generally you'll get one big class action suit. But given that it would have to be against the PUC, good luck with that. They get to make the rules.

The only cure to this will be political.

Best of luck with that. My view is that butting heads with the PUC is a waste of time. Going off-grid is a better solution for those who have enough juice from their panels.

I think the kicker with that is unless your out in the boonies, you can't even, by code, be off the grid.

Wow! You mean even if MacGeek installs a couple of Tesla batteries, he will still have to pay a monthly service charge to NV Energy?
