Hi All,

This is my first time posting in the Vegas forum, usually I post in the Austin forum, so I'm glad to be meeting new people here! Anyhow, I will be coming to Vegas for a couple days next month and noticed on Agoda that there is a room available at the Stratosphere where you pay for the room plus the 12% tax/fees. I noticed they don't charge a hotel resort fee, unless you want the tower admission included.

I'm thinking that's a decent deal, but I'm not sure if they may try to tack on other hidden fees upon check-in instead of the resort fee. From what everyone knows about the Stratosphere, can I expect it to be a smooth check-in? They got pretty good reviews, so it'd be neat to stay there and avoid paying the hotel resort fee, is possible.

Thanks again!

Unless being directly on the Strip is the goal; (And if so, the hotel is just the first step in the cashodectomy you'll be getting); the best deals are the locals casinos dotted around town. When friends visit, I put them up at Eastside Cannery, which has better rooms than the tired strip properties at a fraction of the cost.

As long as you don't plan on walking around the area too much. It's right between downtown and the north strip, so convenient with a car, but not a neighborhood I'd go traipsing around in at night. Some of our more intrepid cd members do, and have not had problems, though.

One of the best things about Stratosphere is it's got excellent restaurants without The Strip prices. I go there once a month and have not been disappointed.

Top of The World is a class experience - get sunset reservations for a romantic dinner. (Relatively) expensive steaks, lobster... etc.
Fellini's is an excellent Italian restaurant with moderate prices. Great values on the wine list.
McCall's is a steak house - moderately expensive. Outstanding bar drinks
Roxy's Diner has American comfort food. Low prices. Good shakes, fries and burgers.
The Buffet... no idea how that is. I don't do buffets.

Enjoy you trip.

Bill

Thanks for the helpful replies!

As backup I was thinking of the Excalibur, since it seems to be near the action on the strip. We're not planning on doing a lot of gambling, more of maybe play the nickel machines and have a drink and move on to the next casino. But, I'd like to either way visit the Stratosphere, maybe if we don't stay there go back during the day. The G/F has never been to Vegas, so she'd like to see the glam and glitz of Vegas. It seems like the Stratosphere is a bit outside the Strip, so I'll look for backups in case that doesn't work out.

Thanks again!

The Excalibur? Not unless you like bad food and baby strollers everywhere. The Strat is much preferable. You can spend one evening enjoying the strip and one evening enjoying the live music downtown.

No matter where you stay, you are going to want a rental car or a bus pass. Those casinos are a lot further apart than they look!

Thanks! Ok then, I will keep the Stratosphere in mind. I'd like to get away from the ultra touristy scene, so we will keep that in mind! :-)

Is uber or lyft a good option in Vegas? I will also check the bus schedules, if they go late night that could be a good alternative to renting a car and getting around Vegas.
Thanks!

We have Uber and Lyft and the Deuce ( double decker bus) strip route runs 24/7 according to this link from the RTC.

If I were visiting and planning to walk around, I'd stay at Bellagio or Paris. They are both right in the middle and you can check out the strip fairly easily without a car or cabs.
