There is an old saying: "don't fight City Hall."

I hedged my bets years ago by buying NV Energy, which now means I own more Berkshire Hathaway.

City Hall should do what's best for its residents -- not an investor in Nebraska.

Actually, I have fought City Hall, and the IRS and won.

Is it any surprise that Sandoval is against rooftop solar?
I, too, hope that solar power and other environmentally friendly forms of energy become successful. That said, the German experiment has not been a complete success.

The BBC, not exactly a right wing propaganda machine (think PBS), has written many articles critical of the German solar program:

Will sun still shine on Germany solar power industry? - BBC News

"The richer people, the farmers, can invest in solar roofs on their own homes, and those in apartment buildings have to pay an extra 80 euros a year. It is a transfer from the poor to the rich.
The problem with solar is, how do you make good the gap when the sun isn't shining?"

This goes back to an issue I'm mentioned before (possibly in other threads), that any economic viability that solar energy production has is completely artificial, largely based on direct government subsidies and mandates on existing utilities that function as indirect subsidies (like net metering.) Take away the subsidies, the solar industry, at least for direct residential power generation, dies.

Net metering isn't a subsidy. The power companies are acquiring more of their commodity when they buy residential solar (at market prices, no less).

More solar means less coal. And that's what this is all about.

Apparently the new PUC rules are getting some push back, and will be delayed.
