And if you're waiting for for some sort of rail transit system to get built in Vegas, good luck. Every time this comes up, it gets crushed. The majority of the people like their cars, and don't like paying taxes. No one is going to fund this.
Things are changing downtown though. There is definitely a shortage of rentals for what people who want to live downtown desire. Still have issue of lack of everyday retail like a supermarket, beyond that I think it's getting close to critical mass. E Fremont is packed all the time on weekends now and even some weekdays. There is money to be made catering to residents there, just hard to make numbers work so far. They still can crunch the numbers and realize living two miles away on other side of I-15 means much lower rents and a 5 minute drive or short ride over.

Looks like Downtown is growing more.

Those hoping for a shorter stumble home from Atomic Liquors could soon be in luck. Las Vegas leaders last week unanimously approved a five-story, 226-unit mixed-use housing development just west of the storied, popular watering hole on Fremont Street.

And for the "streets for people" paths pictured here from the pdf.

Can we get some long arbors above them for some sort of shade?

Perhaps with some wisteria on them? Though I know the plant may require shade as well, but I see palm trees and deciduous trees pictured in all the plans. It would be nice to add some beauty and scent.

They show these canopies for shade and that's fine but it's intermittent and people will be blasted by the sunny spots just like when it's raining and you're trying to stay out of the rain by walking under the store front's canopy. I love all the greenery being proposed though.

I also love these desert flowers, Threadleaf giant hyssop/hummingbird mint, and they attract hummingbirds.
