Hi everyone,

I just got back from a short trip to Vegas and to check on my rental in the Centennial Hills area. I stopped into the new AM/PM on North Durango and West Deer Springs Way and I noticed some really unsavory looking characters in the store and was even asked for money by one of them while I was entering the store. I'm concerned as I'll be moving back into my rental in about a year and was wondering if folks living in the area have seen an increase in unsavory characters. Thanks and happy holidays!

I can't speak specifically to your zip but I have seen panhandlers/vagrant/homeless type people in areas where I wouldn't expect to see them. First of all, it's winter and I'm sure our population of these type folks goes up in the winter. I would rather be homeless here than in Minnesota right now. Then there's all the places these people used to live that are closed down now. Like all those old motels on Fremont east of the casinos. A lot of people were displaced and they all had to go somewhere.

Actually I'm not referring to homeless, but more like thug looking individuals walking up and down Durango and hanging out in front of the Am/Pm. Thanks

I noticed it after I got back this summer from being away for two months. I don't know why or what happened but the area visibly changed. It didn't used to be like that. I watched the crime map for the past year living here and it was relatively quiet with certain hot spots and now it seems crime is more spread around in the NW. Like some crews are working it. They're even moving further west more frequently. I've also seen police presence step up in the area that I hadn't seen before in the year prior. After returning I saw what yellowsnow mentioned as well. There was the one crew cited on three cases in this area that we saw video of on here. One of the videos went viral.

When areas start to become more crime ridden and the population shifts in them it usually points to more low cost housing is being available and access to the areas with rising crime is more available. One does not rob places and them take the bus home with the stolen items in tow. People pan handling do not travel long distances to do so. Something is attracting people to this area to increase crime and begging.

No more of an increase here than anywhere else. You should be fine but remember that what you are observing is a symptom of a deeper problem that will eventually reach into all areas of the US.

Clark County is populated with low lifes, many of the people here are garbage not just in Centennial Hills. I am dealing with another garbage in my community, this after I helped her moved into the unit upstairs from mine.
Investor owned unit that will rent to anyone as long as rent is paid, the consequence is that many of these people have no pride of place and lack respect for those that do.

Just my 2cents... That zip is currently being developed and at some point was a sought after zip to live in. Quite a few wealthy looking houses with very desirable vehicles parked on their driveway. I know because my sister lives in that zip. Burglers and thieves look for easy targets and they won't bother with neighborhoods where they won't find anything worth selling. They don't necessarily have to live there either. Those burglers caught on camera had transportation of their own. It is quite possible the crew goes around neighborhoods scoping houses they think will hold easy to sell goods.
