A question for my fellow LV residents.

In your time living here in LV have you ever had the power get knocked out by a storm or any other cause?

If so what knocked out the power and for how long?

Of course. The cause of the outage wasn't always told to us, either during the event or afterwards. If you have an outage, you can report it either on NVE's app or or nvenergy.com. Any time there is an outage, those places will identify where the general location of the outage is, the number of affected customers, the cause if known, and an estimated time of resolution. Fortunately, the resolution time has always been considerably shorter than their estimates.

For example, Nvenergy.com currently (Feb 1, 2016, 8:54 am) shows 25 customers out near 95 and Stephanie are without power. Estimated time of resolution is 11:15 am.

Thank you for the info. I grew up in the east and we would often have the power knocked out from various storms. In the ten years I've lived in Las Vegas I've never had that happen. I am curious if the power is ever knocked out here via storms or natural disasters?

We lost power once in the apartment. Some dip [excrement] hit the box that powers the complex. It was out a couple hours.

I have been in my house for 1.5 years and the power blipped once for half a second. No clue what it was. It was just enough that I had to reset the microwave clock. It shut off my computer monitors but not my computer. That's how short it was.

My advice is move to an area with underground utilities. Back in NC we had underground utilities and only lost power once when a drunk dip [excrement] hit the box. Went through hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms, 60mph winds, and severe thunder storms without losing power.

In PA, we had power lines feeding the house. We lost power all the time. Wind, rain, snow, drunks, tornadoes, looking at the lines wrong etc.

Been in this house 20 years. Have had a few very short interruptions...maybe every other year. Two significant ones...one was planned and involved changing equipment - down for 4 hours and we had one where an underground cable burned up that took it out for about 10 hours. Actually had a cable laying on the ground for a while.

So minute or less every other year and longer every ten years.

I'd say a good chunk of Las Vegas / Henderson area are served via underground utilities. So natural disasters aren't too much of a factor (until the long-overdue massive quake hits, then all bets are off). Human causes are a totally different issue. Fortunately, the things that non NVE employees can foul up are also usually the easiest to access for the NVE employees to fix.

It's so seldom I don't think we ever think about it. And it never lasts very long. But, for some reason, at the TV station, we seemed to have had more power outages than I've ever had at home, probably because there the whole world knows when you go off the air. Of course, we had back up generators that kicked in automatically. But, when it would happen, some clown might say that another log went through the dam.

I am pretty sure the streets around me lost power during last night's storm. We left the house to go grab a bite around 8:00p and the entire street one over was dark, houses and street lights alike. It struck me as odd as I hadn't seen any power outages in the past few years here.

Had one outage in 4 years for about 1 hour. Live in NW with underground utilities.
Quite the difference from when I lived in VT. One time in VT lost power 7 times in 5 weeks from 3 hours to 2 days.

I do not even think about losing power here....

Very seldom do I lose power. I do have failures a couple times a year that are too short to even notice. The few times the interruptions have been long enough to be of concern, they have been construction related.

NVEnergy seems to be very reliable compared to my previous providers in other states. But most of the power grid here is underground and we don't have much severe weather.
