I know the general consensus is that the further you go from the strip, the nicer the area/neighborhood. It seems the exception is if you are in one of those luxury high rises (Veer, Panorama, Sky, etc.) but the rents there are huge. Is there anything decent (apartment complexes) that are a short drive (<10 min) from the strip and not in an unsafe neighborhood for a couple without having rent over $1000 a month for a 2 bedroom?

I figure that the casino employees must live somewhere close to work on the strip and they can't all live in slums, can they?

I first thought that I found a hidden gem with the recently built Grand Apartments on Flamingo and Paradise but they are across the street from Siegel Suites and there are lots of "warning" reviews about those apartments online. Can anyone else recommend any hidden gems? If it's a super gem, please PM me if you don't want to post it.

Most people don't mind a 20 minute commute to work, so there is no need to live in the grosser places next to the strip.

I would recommend looking at any of the places in Spring Valley. That puts you 10-15 minutes to the strip. That being said, I live in Green Valley, and am 12 minutes from Mandalay Bay. While not "near" the strip, pretty much any place in the valley is going to get you there within a reasonable amount of time.

I live on the eastern edge of town. Literally. Behind my house is open desert and mountain.
It takes me 15-20 minutes to get to the strip. I do construction so it varies based on which part of the strip I have to go to.

Anyway, it is lovely here. It's quiet. No one has messed with me. The crime map shows 1 crime and it was someone breaking into their own car. I'm 5 minutes from 4 different grocery stores. 5 counting target.

Where do you mean exactly when you say "eastern edge"?

You need to research this town more effectively.

It's not the casino workers who struggle and live in the slums. It's the people who can only find multiple part-time minimum-wage jobs who struggle.

There are bartenders in this town who make more than physicians. There are pool servers in this town who drive Ferraris.

I'd love to know why so many newbies want to live close to the Strip. The worst parts of town are the area around the Strip, the area around Downtown and the area around UNLV.

1) Find a map of Las Vegas.

2) Locate the easternmost part of town, where the streets end and the Mojave begins.

3) That's where he lives. I live a couple miles away from him, ALSO on the eastern rim of town.

Las Vegas Grand Apartments look decent looking from the outside but unfortunately the street it is on, (Swenson) is a street full of activity. If you must live near the Strip, try the Hughes Center (expensive) or at least look around for apartments in the area by UNLV, the community on the other side of Maryland Parkway, in front of the university.

I have a friend who has lived at Meridian Condos on Paradise for awhile and says it good. It's on Paradise behind the Link/Quad/Imperial Palace/Whatever they call it now. Lots of private rentals in there.

See if you can pick up a condo or townhouse in Las Vegas Country Club. Three minutes to the strip. There are some inexpensive units in there. Quite safe though once outside the gates the neighborhood is very sketchy.

Meridian is actually very nice. Some units are exceptional. It is however famous for strippers, hookers, pimps and poker players. An exceptional pool scene in the summer time. Quite safe inside.
