did know that...and am happy w/ the little xtra in the paycheck each month.

i knew to expect a hit at the DMV from a previous post of cj's...it was just the initial shock of new vehicle registration vs. registration on my older truck (1992) that was fresh in my mind....as i said, still no regrets.

Have lived here on and off for 4 years. On the whole... yes, enough to have made fiscal plans to stay at least through 2011 barring any disaster or golden opportunity. Came from Milwaukee/Chicago area.

LIKES:
-More opportunity.
-No parking tickets, difficulty finding parking, etc.
-Great restaurant scene.
-The everything 24/7 renegade lifestyle.
-A certain "energy" in the air from people on vacation all around you/wildin' in general.
-Lots of exposure to people from around the world. (more than Milwaukee anyway I can assure you)
-HOA system basically privatizes and saves money on community maintenance.
-Weather. Including the fact that the weather saves time/money on upkeep problems that are the case most anywhere else with "seasons".

DISLIKES:
-Expensive to maintain/register cars.
-People harder to meet.
-People tend to be more materialistic (at least compared to where I'm from)
-No public transport for all intents and purposes.
-Weak bar scene. (I do not consider video poker lounges bars)
-Not as many flaky artsy types. I know they are here, but there doesn't seem to be entire neighborhoods of them like in other places I've been.

I agree its expensive to register your car, but why would it be expensive to maintain your car in LV? I thought the cold weather was harder on cars than warm weather? Do they have a rust problem in WI/IL? from salting the roads? I recomend with all the dust we have in LV, that we change our oil and air filters often. I change my oil every 3K and my air filter is a K&N reusable. It saves me $$$ in the long run.

No, that's true...we have no state tax. And that $$$ you paid to register your car is a LOT less than a few thousand dollars you'd have taken from your paycheck for the state taxes, too!

Remember to bring the registration receipt with you (and your new car sales receipt) when you get your taxes done...you get some $$$ back!

I have a 2006 Mustang GT (Roush) and it cost me $418. Everyone complains about our high registration fees, but CA is not far behind. Your from San Diego and remember how high it was until Arnold repealed the Reg. Taxes? Its still high in CA and not much less than Clark County. My former roomate has a 2006 Mustang also and he pays $350 for his registration (CA), and they have a huge state income tax. So I dont feel so bad with the $418.
