I agree with what you stated above, but speed is always a problem if people drive way too fast for the conditions. Do you think most people keep their cars in tip top shape (brakes and tires) to be able to stop on a dime while traveling high speeds?

It's part of being able to drive. "too fast for the conditions" is something a qualified driver knows and understands.

We live in a place where it is clear and dry 99% of the time. We don't have snow, or ice to content with. Most wrecks happen on clear dry roads here.
In fact, it was clear and dry both times I got hit last year. I was going UNDER the speed limit last time. Speed played no role in either of my wrecks. It was straight up incompetent driving.
Someone pulling off a side road, across 3 lanes, into the side of my car, and then the car behind me.

A few weeks ago I watched a man leave a 4 way stop sign and plow right into a semi that was mid turn. I posted a pic of it in one of the other threads. This moron didn't see a white semi in the middle of the road.

I have driven in some of the worst places on earth -- Cairo, Naples, Southern California.

SoCal is a nightmare because of high volume and lack of bandwidth. But Naples, Cairo and Las Vegas are nightmares because too many drivers treat traffic rules as "traffic suggestions." Since so many drivers in Las Vegas drive erratically, we have more accidents than we should. (As EA noted, our roads are almost always optimal for driving.)

Nothing is going to change until insurance companies really start socking it to us for premiums. Then, maybe, MAYBE we might get serious about texting and driving, habitual red-light runners and similar.

I already pay 250 a month for insurance with a clean driving record. My car is 13 years old. I've already literally paid more for insurance than it is worth.

I'm guessing you're being personally dinged for being on the receiving end of so many accidents. (Like that's your fault.) I would shop around for a decent mutual insurance company and get some rate quotes.

All nonsense. The insurance company statistics again show LV is pretty much average. And, as is standard, the rest of the state is worse than LV in terms of fatal accidents.

I do love it though...I know what I know...don't try and confuse me with facts!

With no inclement weather, we should be BELOW average. We're not....

Why is that?

The road and conditions dictate speed and difficulty. No particular reason weather would drive it.

I would much prefer to drive in up state NY than in southern CA...and I did both for decades.

My boyfriend's best friend just got her car totaled from being hit by an intoxicated driver in a stolen car.

She's fine, but still scary. Only car accident I've ever been in involved nothing but my pickup truck and a barbed wire fence, luckily.
