Well, I actually don't know how new it is to everyone else, but the info is new to me. We all know about the Roku (I have 2 in my home) Apple TV and Amazon TV. Great little options for tv but not for getting live local stations. Well Sony Playstation, has just rolled out a new service nationwide that supposedly deals with that problem. And they claim that you don't even need a Playstation system to make it work. Check out the CNET video. It will show you what you need to know, way better than I can. I'm going to try to suss out all the options we might be interested in, in my home to see if we can finally cut Directv off because I don't need 475 out of 500 channels to be infomercials.

Anyone using this set up already?

Thanks! This looks interesting, and may allow us to jettison directv as well.

Um, if you paying for video services, you're not "cutting the cord." You're renting a different cord.

That being said, it's competition, and competition is good. We just need to be honest about what's happening here.

I will pass. Thirty dollars a month to have access to cloud based PVR of the local channels is too expensive in my opinion.

Lifetime, Lifetime movie network, and Hallmark channel are my favorites. NONE of them are in any of the packages. This is useless, at least for me.

Or you can buy an amazon fire tv box, install kodi. That gets me any movie or tv show for free, streamed from the internet. I still have cox internet with local channels.

+2 on kodi (with exodus)
+1 on fire box (weak Wi-Fi, had to hardwire mine)
Fire stick is pretty good too, and for the price ($35) it might be worth a try.

When I cut the cord with DirecTV, I didn't realize how compressed and garbage-y their signal was. With HD over the air my TV really shines. It is an amazing difference. I wonder how degraded the picture will be with Sony's compressed streaming? Let us know how it works out for you.
