I may be moving to Las Vegas. I have 2 kids, one in college and one who's in high school, so we are looking for at least decent schools. We have a budget of $500-$550k. We don't want to live in a ritzy area, but somewhere safe with houses that offer some acreage but not too far from places where errands would be a long drive. I would also need to have a reasonable commute to the convention center (no more than 30-35 minutes) A vibrant downtown would be nice but it's not a necessity. Also, what are some good private schools in the area, we would be considering then along with private schools. My daughter has an IEP too so where what districts are known for their special education services?

The Northwest is probably the best fit. Get a 1/2 acre in Lone Mountain or 89131 for around your price. Pseudo rural areas. Schools would be Centennial or Arbor View either of which should be OK on an IEP. Under half an hour to Convention Center. You do have to learn how to duck the Spaghetti Bowl in bad traffic but it is doable.

All routine shopping and such is within ten minutes. Not walk-able though

Private schools are on the west side or Henderson. Basically two parochial and three private. IEP will do better in the public system.
