Whether or not he has any ulterior motives, I think Bruff stands about as much chance of getting McCarren moved to Ivanpah as he does of filling Lake Mead by pissing in it.

I was wondering when that would come up. The thing of it is, since the airport was built (early 40s), a city sprung up around it. Progress (and safety) now suggests that it follow in the footsteps of others and move. And let the city prosper.

Noise. You can hear and feel the noise from those 500 flights/day in practically every part of the valley. The World Health Organization claims that urban noise is a major health problem.

Value of properties. I agree. LAS is the reason there's a golf course at the west end of the east-west runway and a graveyard at the east end. Similarly with the vacant properties to the north along East Tropicana.
Simply put, as long as it's convenient to get to and from, the location of a city's airport means little to visitors.
As for the Strip, removing the noise (and pollution) would increase the value of not just the adjacent properties, but thousands of properties throughout the valley.
As for costing billions, sure. Like they say: it takes money to make money. Again, look at Denver. It not only makes money, relocating also removed the problem(s). Ditto for here.

Actually in the northern quadrants the noise is virtually all Nellis...which you appear to avoid. So half the city remains noisy if you did move McCarran.

And you lose very badly on the strip if you move McCarran so you drop billions and billions in order to pay billions more for the new airport. If near strip land had potentially big value the county simply clears the near east or the near west and converts it to Casino zoning. Cheap and fearless lucrative if near strip property was valuable.

But ride Rocinante to the fray and slay those demons...watch the arms though.

McCarran is one of the best airports in the country. Tried flying a plane into San Diego recently? How bout O'Hare or LAX?
Agenda. Guilty as charged.
'Best' airport. What makes for a 'best' airport, and how is LAS one of them?
Here's the criteria
In the list of the world's best airports, I see Denver highly-rated, but not a peep mention of LAS. Which 'best award' did I miss?
But if we move the thing, maybe we can actually make the list.
Finally, yes, I've 'tried' flying into San Diego O'Hare and LAX. And succeeded. Your point is...?

On the T & L 10 best list LAS is number 7 to Denver's number 9. NY and LA lead the worst.

Set that lance and charge again.

Nellis. LAS has 1,500 movement each day. I doubt that Nellis comes anywhere close. Like, in the few dozens.
Regardless, we're talking about McCarran. You want to move Nellis, be my guest. (Then again, maybe we could remake Nellis into McCarran and save Ivanpah for the turtles).

As for 'dropping billions and losing badly', try reworking your post so that it makes sense.

We just spent a bunch of money on a new air traffic control tower that still isn't open yet. But I do think we will eventually have two airports in the Valley.

Aha, got me. Although you mix the categories, I see that Vegas does rate. Goody drumgop. Not sure what 'best' means, but let's move it and make it even better.

On the control tower, maybe we could follow Denver's example and turn it into a restaurant.
