McCarran has only twelve instances in the ASN database since inception in 1948. Except for one hijacking attempt and one bomb, every instance has been due to pilot error or ground crew error. There has not been a single fatal accident. McCarran is one of the safest airports in the world.

The first and crucial block is all in private hands. Only the last stretch by Sunset is part of the airport.

To use any of the airport that land would have to be acquired at Strip prices. So you might make a lot of money for some Strip property owners...but that does not provide airport funds.

Worrior.

Correction. McCarran is not one of the safest airports in the world. It is one of the luckiest airports in the world. You can't rely on luck to keep you safe any more than you can rely on it to make you rich.

Remember, this thread is about more than "safety". It's about the health and well-being of the entire community and it's about relocating and redeveloping it using new ideas and technologies to site that's perfect in every respect.

Given the push back from every comment, however, I do see that it would be a challenge, one that could likely only be overcome, starting on the morning after the night before.

The best way to get something developed is to put it in private hands and give them an opportunity to make money. Example: our new arena. Wham bam thank you MG aM. Best way to screw it up: put in the hands of an "authority".

If they keep pressing their luck, my friend, it will go somewhere - along with an entire neighborhood: up in smoke. We have a chance to prevent it.

McCarran's been safe enough for 70 years, it should be safe enough for anoth... BAM!

If you don't think the 2,800 acres that McCarran occupies, think again. The asking price for one 38-acre parcel south of the Tropicana is $388 million. And if would be higher were it not for the stink-pot noise-maker immediately adjacent.

For this interested in continuing reading on the subject, this from the Clark County Dept of Aviation to UNLV regarding the noise issue. It's got some enlightening diagrams depicting departure patterns. https://www.unlv.edu/assets/plancon/..._JJ_8_4_14.pdf
I love the next to last paragraph "Please note that the (FAA) regulations address neither height-related airport compatibility, nor vehicle traffic compatibility (where stadiums and airport facilities are within close proximity to one
another).

Here's a diagram showing noise contours. https://www.google.com/search?q=mcca...IAvkcvmBPjM%3A
