My one year COX introductory offer has expired and I'm now subject to the $57.99 rate. I have only one PC connected to the internet. I've found COX's essential internet service to be pretty poor when it comes to browsing web sites. Streaming Netflix is fine. When browsing to "heavy" pages (like YAHOO finance) I'm seeing loads of retransmission requests.. so page loads can be really slow.

I'm thinking CenturyLink's 25MBPS service cannot be worse. It is now offered for $29.99/month with a two year commitment.

Does anyone use CenturyLink for internet?
Has anyone ordered CenturyLink NOT from the web site? I've read horrific posts from users where telephone sales personnel falsified their order and they were pretty much screwed when the first bill arrived... and it was after the 30-day cancellation period. Some were stuck paying up to $100/month more than was quoted. I'm guessing the sales people get commission based on the monthly fees.

Do I have to purchase my modem from CenturyLink? Can I buy it used from Amazon or Ebay? I don't want to lease.

Does CenturyLink honor their 30-day cancellation period with no penalty? Just because it is stated doesn't mean they will honor it, so I'm asking if anyone ever canceled successfully within 30 days.

Has anyone been successful in downgrading their internet speed after the introductory offer period expired? The current rate of $29.99 is for all speeds, so I'm thinking why not get the highest, then downgrade after two years. I've read Century Link's customer service is horrible, so I'm wondering if they will just stonewall me if I try to downgrade to a cheaper service level after two years.

Literally just ordered cox, told them that I wanted to know what happened when the introductory rate (currently $39.99) expired after 12 months. They just said call up and ask what promo they can give you which will always be something so seems pretty simple.

Have heard on numerous occasions that the key words on the century link speed claims are "UP TO" so your 25mbps is UP TO 25mbps, which doesn't mean anything really...

Subscribed - I was wondering about this as well since I am relocating the Vegas in July. I have read the post here about internet and TV services even, and wondered if there are any changes or issues with service, speed, reliability, or costs increase issues since the past posts. Seems like Cox or Century Link, and trying to figure out the best bang for the buck without dealing with crazy price increases or slow/ inconsistent speed.

I will never do business with Centurylink again. Not sure if they are dishonest or incompetent, but customer service is maddening. Never again.

(Was a customer since 1989).

I had centurylink for the past 5 years. They have been great. I always kept my $29 introductory price. I called every year when it was about to expire to renew a 1 year contract. I'm moving so I just had to cancel my service.

If you call them they can likely get you a better deal than on the web with only a one-year contract. (I got a $100 gift card and a much lower rate than online) Also, you jut have to call every year when your contract is up and they can set you up with another "introductory" rate.

I will agree with that. They are not what they used to be as far as customer service! But a better alternative to COX IMO.

Internet and cable TV service is one of my bigger concerns when we move to the area next year. I don't want to go with a dish if I don't have to, but I've heard that Cox and Century Link are not all that great. Maybe that's wrong, but it doesn't sound like it.

I'll need to have a fast, reliable internet service and I'm not sure either of these two can provide that, but there really aren't many options. You're kind of stuck with whoever handles your area. We have Comcast (here) and their internet and HDTV services has been great, although a little on the expensive side.

Check your address with CenturyLink. At my address they only offer 1.5 Mbs which is just slightly faster than dial-up and no TV. Called up Cox when 12 month commitment ran out, asked for the retention department. They gave me a $30/m discount on 15 Mbs and phone service. Not what it was but better than almost $100.00/m.
