They want dogs adopted out of the shelters not put into them. Told me that if and when we are getting close to moving to contact animal control and we can get started on the permit. Told me there are no restrictions on housing or land requirements- there are 5 dogs in apartments.

Told me we were welcome in Henderson because no one inquires about their pets and any regulations: he said that only responsible owners do that. He welcomed me to Henderson- dogs and all.
Wow, now THAT is some good PR for the city of Henderson!

No extra charge for the rats. Ha.

I don't mean to be mean, but those $1 stores have been having a rat problem.

Default Choices

Hi Countrykaren,

I've read several of your different posts and was wondering if you've ever used the Sperling's Compare Cities website? I've found it extremely helpful for narrowing the vast range of possible places to live.

Like you, I love the beauty and greenery of Washington state but quickly dropped searches for any
Pacific Northwest coastal cities after I became aware of the Cascadia Subduction Zone and the multiple predictions that a 9+ mega earthquake there is long overdue. The New Yorker magazine article triggered numerous Youtube videos on this topic; well worth researching before making any decisions.

Also would like to comment on any possible move to LV, NV for health. Having resided there for several years, and because a family member loves to play slot machines, I recently did numerous searches in
Henderson, Boulder City, Mt. Charleston, Overton, Pahrump, etc. Finally found a great place in Boulder City that met all of the right specs. Decided to do further research and was much dismayed to discover that there is an air quality problem in that entire region because of vast surface deposits of asbestos with an accompanying rise in mesothelioma cases. Invisible yet lethal and untreatable. Also worth researching.

Am expecting negative feedback from other posters and being labeled a scaremonger but as a retiree on a fixed income and some health issues, I felt compelled to give you a heads up on what I've researched FYI.

Hope you find it helpful and good luck with your searches.

And don't forget the Timex plant that blew up many years ago. All the lethal chemicals in the soil. Didn't they build homes on that site? (It's in Henderson.)

As far as earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest, if Mt. Rainier blows, there will be a heck of an earthquake and a whole lot more. I know Mt. St Helens is getting active again. I was there in 1980 living on an island when it blew. (One of the San Juan Islands.)
I have a relative that has been warning me about earthquakes in the west since the 1990's. He swears that any day now the entire state of California will fall into the ocean and Las Vegas will be a beach city. If it happens, it happens. We cannot put up our hands and yell "Stop!" Like that would have any effect. So why worry about things like that? And then it may never happen in our lifetimes. Or it could happen tomorrow. Just keep the glassware off the top shelf in the cupboard.

As far as living in Las Vegas, been here way too long. 17 1/2 years. I am just tired of the sameness. Sometimes I really love it here, but lately, not so much. Probably something to do with all the strife in the country that never seems to get better. I really don't know where it would be much better. Every place has something.
