I won't mention the name of the tire repair chain that has several LV locations but they do free air checks and free tire patches even if you didn't buy your tires from them. They have "discount" tires for those that didn't know what company I was talking about.

Anyway, my low pressure light came on, I stopped for a free air check, the guy saw one tire was very under inflated and noticed a nail in the tire. They took off the tire, patched it, and I was out the door in 40 minutes. I got a receipt for $0.00 that explained what they did. Excellent customer service and everything done with a smile and zero attempt at an upsell.

2 weeks later, no problems yet. Anyway, I tipped $10. Was that enough? Too much? What's the protocol here for how much to tip?

What's the cost of a tire patch these days, maybe $30-40? In that case 20% would be a nice tip, so $10 would seem to be okay.

a tire patch is less than $10. however, i had the same issue, walmart wouldn't touch it.. the "discount" tire place did it for free, i tipped the 10. and if i ever need tires, im going straight to that "discount" tire place.

Way I look at is, what's it worth to you? A couple years ago I noticed a nail in one tire, we were living in an apartment and of course I didn't have my portable compressor or tire plug kit. Drove down a block, he not only plugged it, which is always the standard where I'm from but took the tire off and patched it. I was expecting 30-50 bucks. He said, 'whatever you think is fair'. I gave him 30 and didn't look back. He was happy and so was I. Yeah, I know that's too much for a tip, but it needed to be done and at the time I didn't have the means for the repair. It's still holding up today.

I had one done at a garage and they charged me $15. I need one done now so I would easily tip at least $15 to the free guys. Can you message me the chain?

I had a nail in mine recently and the guy fixed it free of charge. Guy behind the counter told me to just tip the guy who repaired it $4 or $5.

I may be cheap, but I usually give them $4 or $5 for a patch, or for a tire rotation.

I don't know if you are being serious as the name of the tire chain has already been mentioned so I underlined it in Airics post.

I suspect the word "Discount" is a big hint.
