so far not too impressed with the install, not sure if the handyman affected the performance of the unit, but i notice he did two things:

1. inside the unit, there's a little flotation device with a metal rod (like in toilets), he bent it in a way that allowed more water to fill the tank or whatever it is
The float valve controls the water intake, just like the float valve in your toilet. When it drops down, it opens the valve and fresh water flows in. You want the water level at a certain point. Too low, and the pump can suck in air. Too high, and it will flow right into the overflow, wasting the water. He was just adjusting the water level.

2. there was water dripping from a black hose at the bottom of the unit (looked normal to me), he tied it up so it didn't drip
There should absolutely be water running from that hose. It comes directly from a bleed valve. As the water evaporates, you get more and more mineral content in the remaining water. If you don't remove that somehow, you'll get scale buildup. Now, you can either have an whole-house RO filter so that you don't have any scale to begin with, or you can periodically flush the water. The bleed valve does the latter for you automatically.

also, i decided to get it installed in the wall, but the handyman couldn't install it flush because of the mounting brackets, so now it protrudes 3-4 inches... anyway to get this flush?
If you are talking about flush with the inside of your wall, no. It should definitely be flush with the outside of your wall.

Right now, it's 109 degrees outside with 11% humidity. It's hot as . But my swamp cooler is keeping it at 80 degrees downstairs, 82 upstairs. It's a little warmer in the farthest bedrooms, though, which is the reason why come 7:00, I'm cranking the a/c up. I've got kids who like to sleep.

The Bonaire instructions say that you should expect the unit to bleed off 5 gallons an hour. This seems very excessive to me. We just rerouted the black bleed hose back into the tank. Now once a week we remove the overflow pipe to allow total drainage. Been doing this for almost 3 years and have no scale issue on the pads or pump.

I ran the normal a/c at 9pm last night since the master bedroom is the hottest in the entire house (not in a good way), unfortunately it took a lot of time to cool it down, so i will have to run it earlier.. i plan on switching to TOU, but may delay that since I have an o/seas trip in mid September.... unless NV energy gives me a free smart thermostat or something

I re-started the bonaire at 7am, it definitely blowed a lot cooler this morning. wish i could've kept it on overnight but can't get sufficient cooling to the master, and won't be able to leave the windows open in that room overnight either

I measured 9 quarts (2.25 gallons) in about 1 hour, that was at max cooling... but i will certainly do the once a week thing soon... for the moment, while i'm home a lot, i will water my shrubs

One thing I wish I did instead of cut a hole in the wall in the downstairs bedroom, was build a frame with wheels that allowed the unit to be placed into a glass sliding door upstairs, at will... don't know how feasible that idea is, but if it can be done, i'll attempt to do it once i recover the costs of the unit and labor or in 3 years time (whichever comes later)

no clue how much it's going to cost to repair that hole either, but I'll use the same handyman that cut it since he isn't too expensive

The pump is independent of the fan speed. Put it on high, put it on low, the same amount of water is going to be flowing over the pads (and out the bleed tube).

For this reason, I find the medium setting works the best. On high the air isn't as cool and on low not enough air is moving.

agreed on high the temps of the air is a couple degrees higher when the humidity and temps are right we set it on low and have a timer cycle it on and off a few times overnight otherwise it gets a little cold inside

My phone app says it's going to be 119 tomorrow.
I was out in my garage earlier, that thermometer said 116.
