This is the biggest reason I want to move out there. Between the humid summers and the wretched cold, snowy winters, the weather here is not to my liking 8ish months out of the year. I'll take a few months in the 100s with low humidity over what I'm dealing with now.

It makes a huge difference.
When it's rainy and the humidity is high here it's miserable. Even sometimes in the mornings it will be 30% and it's terrible.

5% and 115? No problem.
80% and 80? GTFO

This thread is making me rethink going back east for my high school reunion in August. Don't know how the humidity will affect me. I remember telling people back home how hot gets in the summer here, and one said yes, but it gets cold at night doesn't it? I told him it does because I was playing night softball at 1:00am once and actually saw it go down to 100º.

Can either of you or anyone else recommend an installer, and how much a typical installation would cost? PM/DM is fine

If I recall correctly, tiger08 has posted before about some installations he's done, so you might DM him. It's not that hard though. You pull it out of the box, extend the face (its collapsed inside the box so the box can be thinner), screw it into place, lift it into the window, and secure the whole thing into place. Then attach the water supply, plug it in, and it will start working.

Thanks I was thinking in wall installation, but I'll take a look at the above method

Actually, Denver is very nice in the summer. Perhaps it is the altitude.

Denver is pretty nice all year. Even when it snows it melts off pretty quickly usually. They have the 3rd lowest humidity of large cities (metros) in the US too behind Vegas and Phoenix

Just bought the Bonaire swamp cooler, got a further 10% off by using a coupon I paid $9 for on eBay (net result basically covered tax)

The thing is massive. I have found the room I want to put it in and am hoping it will fit it the horizontal sliding window.

Unfortunately, there's no close water spigot on that side of the house, I could really use a recommendation for a handyman/plumber that won't rip me off

They're designed for vertical windows, since that way the only gap is along the bottom, and that can be closed off with the plastic piece they include in the box. On the other hand, sometimes the best window is really a horizontal slider. That's the way it was in my house, so I constructed a frame from wood and polycarbonate:
